Job Description:
Sr. Live Events & Broadcast Engineer (EIC)

Location: San Francisco, California (On-site)

Overview

The Engineer in Charge is the operational technical owner for broadcast and live-event systems across company offices. This role keeps commissioned systems event-ready, absorbs daily readiness and event-support ownership, leads technical advance, rehearsals, show-day escalation, and fallback decisions, and drives incidents, vendor follow-through, documentation, and technician enablement through closure. The role is hands-on and production-facing: it maintains established standards and validated workflows, turns recurring failures into durable fixes, and owns steady-state reliability after systems are handed into operations.

Operational Responsibilities
  • Own technical readiness for live and hybrid events: assess production requirements, verify system health and dependencies, establish readiness criteria, and confirm primary and fallback signal paths.
  • Design and configure custom event workflows within existing broadcast and AV systems, supporting requirements such as live demonstrations, remote presenters, multiple presentation sources, recording, and streaming.
  • Validate workflows through end-to-end testing and technical rehearsals, confirming signal routing, audio/video synchronization, remote participation, output quality, and recovery procedures before event use.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support during rehearsals and live events, diagnosing complex video, audio, control, networking, and conferencing issues while maintaining continuity of the live program.
  • Lead technical escalations and fallback decisions, coordinating event technicians, vendors, AV Engineering, and Network teams to isolate faults, restore functionality, and communicate production risks.
  • Document validated configurations, signal flows, operating instructions, and recovery procedures; use post-event findings to resolve recurring issues and improve future event readiness.
  • Keep installed event infrastructure and portable production environments aligned to established engineering standards, baseline configurations, naming conventions, signal-flow documentation, and validated operating modes.
  • Maintain current route maps, primary and fallback signal paths, source-of-truth records, configuration notes, known limitations, and operator-facing workflows across venues.
  • Validate and troubleshoot video routing, presentation processing, signal transport, format conversion, synchronization, genlock and clocking, multiview, LED and confidence-monitor paths, recording, and distribution.
  • Validate and troubleshoot networked audio, DSP, wireless and RF coordination, Dante, AES67, intercom, communications, mix-minus, room audio, remote audio, and platform integrations.
  • Partner with Network, IT, and Security on AV-network troubleshooting, including multicast, bandwidth, quality of service, IP addressing, DHCP, discovery, and secure connectivity.
  • Own operational change control, rollback planning, staged firmware coordination, redundancy drills, failover and recovery validation, and acceptance of commissioned systems into steady-state support.
  • Identify undocumented dependencies and recurring operational risks; remediate within the approved operating model and escalate new-system, build, or material design changes to AV Engineering.
Cross-Office Operations, Vendors, and Team Enablement
  • Travel between company offices and event locations for technical advance, readiness validation, rehearsals, live-event support, advanced troubleshooting, and local AV-team enablement.
  • Publish and maintain concise operator guides, configuration standards, signal-flow documentation, runbooks, escalation paths, recovery procedures, known limitations, and technical change history.
  • Coach Event Technicians to operate and troubleshoot validated workflows independently; define clear escalation thresholds and support handoffs.
  • Own vendor support cases, evidence packages, technical follow-through, system handoffs, support responsibilities, and operational acceptance criteria; partner with AV Engineering when new-system design approval is required.
  • Partner with production, event, AV, facilities, Network, Security, and other internal stakeholders to communicate readiness, risks, workarounds, technical decisions, and unresolved dependencies.
  • Track operational spares, repair cases, warranty and support paths, lifecycle risks, and event-continuity needs for critical production systems.
Required Qualifications
  • Seven or more years in live-event, broadcast, production engineering, or comparable enterprise event-AV operations, with hands-on EIC or equivalent operational ownership.
  • Demonstrated calm show-day leadership, rehearsal ownership, technical intake, fallback planning, crew and vendor coordination, incident command, and follow-through.
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting production video routing, timing, synchronization, presentation processing, multiview, recording, streaming, conferencing, and remote-contribution workflows.
  • Experience with Q-SYS, Yamaha, Dante, AES67, DSP, digital audio, wireless and RF workflows, communications systems, mix-minus, and professional production signal flows.
  • Practical AV-over-IP and networking experience, including NDI, Q-LAN, SRT, RTMP, multicast, bandwidth planning, quality of service, DHCP, discovery, and partnering effectively with Network Engineering.
  • Ability to interpret and enforce established system standards, maintain runbooks and source-of-truth documentation, resolve complex infrastructure failures, mentor technicians, and manage vendor escalations.
  • Availability to travel between company offices and event locations; occasional early-morning, evening, or weekend event support and engineering escalations may be required.
Preferred Platform Experience
  • Video and production: Ross, Vizrt TriCaster, Sienna Router, Magewell, Analog Way, Barco, and Blackmagic Design.
  • Audio and control: Q-SYS control and UCI workflows, Yamaha DM7, Stream Deck, and Companion.
  • Cameras, display, and collaboration: Panasonic or Sony PTZ cameras, KVM systems, LED walls, and Google Meet or Cisco Conferencing.
