Our Fortune 500 client is looking for a Lead Bioinformatics Scientist for their project based in Jacksonville, FL.

Job Title: Lead Bioinformatics Scientist

Location: Jacksonville, FL-Onsite

Job Description:

• As directed by the Department, develop custom genomic epidemiology bioinformatics pipelines/workflows.
• At the direction of the Department, lead the selection and development of appropriate analysis techniques and measures.
• At the direction of the Department, identify and implement the necessary software and databases to complete defined analytical tasks.
• At the direction of the Department, lead the development, management, and curation of databases for analysis.
• At the direction of the Department, lead the identification, implementation, and maintenance of data quality control, data submissions, and management programs.
• At the direction of the Department, provide telephonic and web based technical assistance on the use of complex data analysis techniques and methods to other bioinformaticians, laboratory staff, and epidemiologists.
• At the direction of the Department, provide reports to the Department with analytical results from genomic surveillance and outbreak investigations for the Department to review and approve.
• At the direction of the Department, lead coordination between bioinformaticians involved in analysis projects, including data sharing and engagement across multidisciplinary project teams.
• At the direction of the Department, submit the results of the research projects to the Department for review and approval. At the direction of the Department, disseminate the approved results of research projects in a wide range of venues including publications, peer-reviewed journals, summaries, manuscripts, special reports, and oral/poster presentations.
• At the direction of the Department, the Contractor will be responsible for traveling to conferences/workshops to present results of approved research studies as approved by the Department.
• At the direction of the Department, attend training workshops approved by the Department to ensure the Contractor’s knowledge remains current. Contractor will be responsible for traveling to the assigned workshop or training locations. Create a follow-up report detailing the training received and submit it within seven business days of the training to the Department Contract Manager.
• At the direction of the Department, provide progress during in-person weekly task meeting with the Department supervisor.
• At the direction of the Department, provide a monthly written progress report summarizing the development and status of tasks 6.1.1 - 6.1.10, no later than the 7th day of the following month.

  Required Skills:

• A PhD in bioinformatics, genomic epidemiology, microbiology, virology, parasitology, evolutionary biology, microbial genetics, molecular biology, computer science, or related field.
• At least five years of practical and technical experience in microbial and/or public health bioinformatics.
• At least five years of experience with phylogenetics and comparative genomic analysis of microbial organisms.
