Summary

SAP Data Management Lead 
Location: Fremont, CA
Role Purpose: The SAP Data Management Lead is responsible for defining, governing, and delivering end-to-end data management activities across SAP transformation, implementation, migration, and ongoing operations. The role ensures that SAP master and transactional data is accurate, complete, compliant, and fit for business use across processes, systems, and reporting landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead SAP data management strategy, governance, standards, and execution across SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, and integrated enterprise systems.
  • Own data migration planning and delivery, including data extraction, profiling, cleansing, mapping, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and load readiness.
  • Define and enforce data quality rules, controls, issue management processes, and governance workflows across master data and transactional data objects.
  • Partner with business process owners, functional teams, technical teams, and system integrators to confirm data scope, ownership, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
  • Drive data readiness for mock loads, cutover cycles, user acceptance testing, go-live, and post-go-live stabilisation.
  • Establish data migration and data governance documentation, including object inventories, mapping specifications, validation rules, reconciliation reports, and audit evidence.
  • Monitor data risks, defects, dependencies, and remediation actions, ensuring timely escalation and resolution.
  • Lead workshops with business and technology stakeholders to align data requirements with process, reporting, integration, and compliance needs.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and quality assurance for data analysts, migration consultants, functional SMEs, and offshore or nearshore delivery teams.
  • Continuously improve data management practices by introducing reusable templates, automation opportunities, data quality dashboards, and best-practice standards.
  • Good understanding of SAP archiving
Required Skills and Experience
  • Strong experience in SAP data management, SAP data migration, master data governance, or enterprise data quality management.
  • Hands-on understanding of SAP master data and transactional data across areas such as Finance, Procurement, Sales, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Plant Maintenance, or Enterprise Asset Management.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA transformation programmes, including migration strategy, data object planning, mock load cycles, reconciliation, and cutover readiness.
  • Hands on experience in SAP data migration and governance tools such as SAP Migration Cockpit, SAP Data Services, Syniti, LSMW, SAP MDG, ETL platforms, SQL, or data quality tools.
  • Ability to define data standards, ownership models, data quality rules, exception handling, and governance controls.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets, identify root causes, and drive practical remediation actions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, facilitation, and leadership skills across business and technology teams.
  • Experience managing delivery teams, coordinating multiple workstreams, and operating in complex global or multi-country programme environments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 15+ years of experience in SAP data management, SAP migration, SAP implementation, or enterprise data governance roles.
  • Relevant SAP certifications, SAP S/4HANA experience, data governance certifications, or project management qualifications are advantageous.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience leading data workstreams in SAP S/4HANA greenfield, brownfield, selective data transition, or carve-out programmes.
  • Knowledge of SAP Data migration, SAP MDG, data ownership operating models, business glossary management, and enterprise data governance frameworks.
  • Experience with reconciliation, auditability, lineage, and compliance requirements for regulated or complex enterprise environments.
  • Exposure to integration data validation across SAP and non-SAP systems, including middleware, reporting platforms, data lakes, and downstream applications.
  • Experience working with hybrid delivery models involving onshore, offshore, client, vendor, and system integrator teams.

  • Data object inventory, ownership matrix, and governance model.
  • Data mapping, transformation, cleansing, and validation specifications.
  • Data quality dashboards, issue logs, remediation plans, and risk registers.
  • Mock load, cutover, reconciliation, and go-live readiness reports.
  • Post-go-live data stabilisation and continuous improvement plan.
