GIS Support Engineer

Introduction

We are seeking a GIS Support Engineer to support and maintain enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and spatial data platforms used by utility operations. The candidate will work closely with business users, field operations, engineering, asset management, outage management, and IT teams to ensure the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of GIS solutions. The role requires expertise in GIS technologies, utility network models, spatial data management, application support, troubleshooting, integrations, and incident resolution.

Responsibilities

GIS Application Support

• Provide Level 2/Level 3 production support for enterprise GIS applications.
• Monitor GIS systems and resolve incidents, service requests, and performance issues.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Manage GIS application upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities.
• Support disaster recovery and business continuity processes.

Utility GIS Operations

• Support electric, gas, and water network models within GIS.
• Ensure data accuracy and integrity of utility asset records.
• Assist engineering and field operations teams with GIS-related issues.
• Support network tracing, connectivity validation, and asset lifecycle management.
• Participate in GIS data quality initiatives.

System Integration Support

• Support integrations between GIS and:
  • Outage Management Systems (OMS)
  • Asset Management Systems (EAM)
  • Work Management Systems (WMS)
  • SCADA systems
  • Mobile workforce applications
  • Customer Information Systems (CIS)
  • SAP solutions

Database & Data Management

• Manage and support spatial databases.
• Perform data migration, validation, reconciliation, and synchronization activities.
• Develop and maintain GIS reports and dashboards.
• Troubleshoot spatial data issues.

Technical Support & Documentation

• Create support documentation, SOPs, and knowledge articles.
• Provide user training and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with vendors and third-party support teams.
• Participate in on-call support rotations when required.

Requirements

Required Technical Skills

GIS Technologies:

• Strong experience with:
  • ArcGIS Enterprise
  • ArcGIS Pro
  • ArcGIS Online
  • Utility Network or Geometric Network
  • ArcGIS Server

Databases:

• Oracle
• SQL Server
• PostgreSQL/PostGIS
• Spatial database administration

Programming & Scripting:

• Python
• SQL
• PowerShell
• JavaScript (preferred)

Integration Technologies:

• REST APIs
• Web Services
• ETL tools
• FME (preferred)

Utility Domain Knowledge:

• Experience supporting one or more of the following:
  • Electric Distribution Networks
  • Transmission Networks
  • Gas Distribution Systems
  • Water Utilities
  • Renewable Energy Infrastructure
  • Utility Asset Management
  • Outage Management Processes
  • Work and Asset Management Systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• GIS certifications from Esri preferred.
• Experience with utility industry regulations and compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with:
  • SAP S/4HANA
  • SAP EAM
  • Maximo
  • OMS and SCADA platforms
