Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

The Manifest Delivery team is accountable for ensuring that customers can play back videos across Disney's suite of streaming applications. The team's responsibilities include delivering HLS and DASH manifests that power the in-app players across a variety of players for the VOD experience. The team is involved in end-to-end quality of service for playback, from how long it takes to start a video to how the video segments are delivered. We are looking for a Software Developer to help us build a robust, reliable, and fast set of manifest services.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain high scale Golang backend APIs to power DASH and HLS VOD and live dynamic ad insertion playback across Disney's streaming applications.
  • Develop infrastructure and deploy maintain highly available distributed systems via AWS with tooling like Spinnaker and Kubernetes.
  • Write design documents for new systems, contribute to team pull requests and documentation and actively participate in team agile ceremonies.


Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of software development experience preferably with Golang.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience building scalable, fault-tolerant, high-uptime systems in a cloud native environment - preferably AWS cloud.
  • Experience designing and building backend APIs.
  • Strong understanding of OOO design patterns and concepts and ofsoftware development collaboration best practices (i.e. git workflows, pull request feedback, etc.)
  • Experience with maintaining large code bases with version control, testing flows and monitoring tools.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration skills and a strong teamwork ethic.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset - actively looking to solve problems, taking initiative to find and fix defects and collaborating with peers to continuously analyze and optimize performance.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with streaming video technology (i.e. DASH, HLS, CMAF, etc).
  • Ability to thrive in a small, fast-paced development team while also being capable of independently managing tasks, troubleshooting issues, and balancing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

The hiring range for this position in New York City, NY is $120,300 to $161,300 per year and in Santa Monica, CA is $114,900 to $154,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
