Job Title: Software Developer III (Cybersecurity Engineering)
Duration: 6+ months
Work Location: Austin - TX | Onsite
The services of three (3) Software Developer III professionals, hereafter referred to as Candidates, who meet the general qualifications of Software Developer III in Applications/Software Development and the specifications outlined in this document.
All work products resulting from this engagement shall be considered “works made for hire” and remain the sole property of HHSC. Candidates may be required to undergo and successfully pass criminal background checks in accordance with Texas state laws. Job Description
· The Software Developer III will be responsible for:
· Researching, designing, developing, implementing, and managing software solutions.
· Testing, validating, and enhancing new and existing applications.
· Collaborating with developers, UX designers, business analysts, and system analysts.
· This role operates within HHSC’s Chief Information Security Office (CISO) and focuses on cybersecurity engineering, penetration testing enablement, and SIEM integration.
Position Summary
· The Software Developer III will design, develop, and support cybersecurity engineering solutions that enhance:
· Penetration testing capabilities
· Security automation frameworks
· SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) integrations
· The role emphasizes building secure APIs, automation scripts, and scalable integrations to support continuous monitoring and advanced threat detection aligned with HHSC’s Zero Trust architecture and modernization initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
· Security Engineering & Development
· Develop secure APIs, microservices, and software components.
· Build integrations between penetration testing tools, vulnerability scanners, and SIEM platforms.
· Design and implement security data pipelines for telemetry ingestion (e.g., Splunk).
· Automate security workflows including testing, reporting, and evidence collection.
· Integrate outputs with Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) systems.
· Penetration Testing Enablement
· Build and manage Kali Linux-based testing environments (virtual/cloud).
· Maintain penetration testing toolchains and frameworks.
· Develop exploit scripts, PoCs, and test harnesses.
· Support red team and application security testing initiatives.
· SIEM & Security Operations Integration
· Develop APIs/connectors for SIEM integrations.
· Implement log parsing, normalization, and enrichment.
· Automate alert correlation and reportingCollaborate with CSOC teams for monitoring and detection improvements.Scripting & Automation
· Develop automation scripts using Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
· Implement CI/CD pipelines for security tools and integrations.
· Maintain code repositories and documentation.
Security & Compliance
· Ensure compliance with HHSC, DIR, and NIST standards.
· Participate in architecture reviews and risk assessments.
· Produce technical documentation, runbooks, and configuration guides.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· Minimum 8 years of experience in software development/security engineering.
· Strong experience in security automation and integrations.
· Hands-on experience with penetration testing tools and Kali Linux.
· Proficiency in Python, Java, JavaScript, or C#.
· Experience developing REST APIs and enterprise integrations.
· Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
· inux system administration experience.
· Familiarity with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, Sentinel).
· Knowledge of secure coding and cybersecurity principles.
Preferred Qualifications
· 5–8+ years of advanced development experience.
· Experience building security automation frameworks.
· Expertise in SIEM data pipelines and integrations.
· Experience with Docker, VMware, and cloud-based labs.
· Ability to design scalable, resilient architectures.
· Experience in government or regulated environments.

Compensation for roles at Beacon Systems Inc depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, BeaconGov provides reasonable range of compensation for this role.
