Summary
Location: Sunnyvale, CA
We are seeking a talented Software Developer with deep expertise in GraphQL and hands-on proficiency in Node.js to design, build, and scale high-performance API architectures and microservices.
In this role, candidate will be responsible for creating flexible, unified data layers that power seamless web and mobile client experiences. The person will design clean GraphQL schemas, optimize resolver execution patterns, and integrate diverse backend services, databases, and microservices into a cohesive, secure data graph.
Key Responsibilities
1. GraphQL API Architecture & Design
Design, implement, and maintain scalable, robust GraphQL APIs, including schemas, queries, mutations, and subscriptions.
Establish schema governance best practices, schema stitching, or federation (e.g., Apollo Federation).
Optimize GraphQL execution performance, mitigating common pitfalls like the N+1 problem using batching and caching patterns (e.g., DataLoader).
Implement security best practices: query depth limiting, complexity analysis, rate limiting, and role-based access control (RBAC).
2. Backend & Node.js Development
Build performant microservices and backend services using Node.js (TypeScript / JavaScript, Express, Fastify, NestJS, or Apollo Server).
Integrate backend APIs with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
Connect legacy REST APIs, gRPC services, and third-party SaaS platforms through the GraphQL layer.
3. Performance, Scalability & Reliability
Profile, debug, and fine-tune API response times, latency, throughput, and memory consumption.
Design caching layers using Redis or CDN/edge-level caching strategies.
Write unit, integration, and end-to-end (E2E) automated test suites using frameworks like Jest, Mocha, or Supertest.
4. Collaboration & Engineering Standards
Collaborate closely with frontend teams (React, iOS, Android, web) to define contracts and deliver intuitive data interfaces.
Participate in code reviews, technical architecture spikes, and continuous improvement of engineering standards and CI/CD pipelines.
