Requirements:
Role Overview: Our Ecommerce SRE team is looking for a specialized Observability Engineer to strengthen the visibility and reliability of our global platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for building the foundation of how we monitor, trace, and alert across both modern cloud offerings and legacy systems. You will play a critical part in standardizing our telemetry stack and ensuring that "observability-as-code" is a reality for our engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • OpenTelemetry Strategy: Standardize OpenTelemetry implementation, including the configuration of exporters, advanced filtering, and metadata enrichment to ensure high-quality data.
  • Library Ownership: Lead the rollout, maintenance, and scaling of internal Observability Libraries across all service offerings and legacy foundation capabilities.
  • Datadog Ecosystem Management: Ensure consistent reporting of metrics and traces across all services, driving full-stack visibility within Datadog.
  • Modern Alerting & SLOs: Drive the migration of legacy alerts into standardized Datadog monitors, transitioning the team toward SLO-based alerting policies.
  • Dashboard Standardization: Design and deploy centralized dashboards aligned with Golden Signals and service-level metrics to provide a "single pane of glass" for the organization.
  • Knowledge Engineering: Author comprehensive runbooks and documentation; conduct training sessions to empower internal teams and ensure high adoption rates.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven Experience: Deep expertise in the OpenTelemetry (OTel) ecosystem and observability best practices.
  • Datadog Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Datadog integration, APM, and monitoring configurations.
  • Engineering Mindset: Experience developing and maintaining shared libraries/SDKs for distributed systems.
  • Strategic Migration: Demonstrated ability to transition complex legacy monitoring setups to modern, standardized frameworks.
  • Communication: Strong technical writing skills for runbooks and the ability to mentor other engineers.

Work Schedule

  • Timezone Alignment: Candidates must have significant overlap with PST (Pacific Standard Time) and CST (Central Standard Time) working hours.
