Client Job Description:
The Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, validating, and sustaining manufacturing processes used in the production of precision optical components, coatings, and assemblies. This role provides technical leadership for process improvement initiatives, yield enhancement, root cause analysis, and implementation of manufacturing best practices. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in metallurgy, materials science, or related engineering disciplines and applies that expertise to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and process reliability in a high-precision manufacturing environment serving aerospace, defense, and commercial markets.
Scope & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, validate, and continuously improve manufacturing processes for precision optical components, coatings, and assemblies
Analyze manufacturing data, process trends, and production metrics to identify opportunities for yield improvement, cost reduction, and throughput enhancement
Investigate process deviations, nonconformances, and quality concerns utilizing structured root cause analysis methodologies
Support vacuum coating, electroforming, plating, machining, finishing, and related manufacturing operations through process optimization and troubleshooting
Develop and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, process flow diagrams, control plans, and manufacturing specifications
Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Production, and Engineering teams to ensure process consistency, product conformity, and operational efficiency
Lead process validation activities, capability studies, and qualification efforts for new and existing manufacturing processes
Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies, equipment, materials, and process controls to improve operational performance
Participate in new product introduction (NPI) activities to ensure designs are manufacturable, scalable, and cost-effective
Support corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities and continuous improvement initiatives
Monitor process performance and establish controls to maintain repeatability, reliability, and product quality
Work closely with suppliers, customers, and cross-functional teams to resolve technical manufacturing and process-related issues
Provide technical guidance and training to manufacturing personnel regarding process requirements, specifications, and best practices
Ensure compliance with customer requirements, quality standards, safety procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements

Additional Skills
]Experience:
5-7 years of Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering experience in a precision manufacturing environment
Experience supporting optical manufacturing, aerospace, defense, vacuum coating, electroforming, plating, thin-film deposition, or related processes preferred
Experience with process development, process validation, yield improvement, and root cause analysis
Skills / Knowledge:
Strong understanding of metallurgy, materials science, surface treatments, and manufacturing process interactions
Knowledge of vacuum coating systems, thin-film technologies, electroforming, plating, machining, polishing, or related precision manufacturing processes preferred
Experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC), process capability analysis, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies
Ability to analyze manufacturing data and make data-driven process improvement recommendations
Experience in creating and maintaining engineering documentation, process specifications, and technical reports
Working knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CAD software such as SolidWorks or equivalent systems
Strong project management, organizational, and technical communication skills
