Position: AS400 Developer/Administrator
Position Type: Contract, part-time (20 hours/week), 12-month initial term with a strong likelihood of extension

Job Summary:
Archon Resources is seeking an experienced AS400 (IBM i) Developer/Administrator for a long-term, part-time contract supporting a state government client's core IBM AS/400 environment. This role blends legacy application development with application-level system administration, and does not require hardware or OS-level systems engineering, since the underlying environment is fully hosted and managed by an external provider. A great fit for a seasoned IBM i professional looking for a flexible, defined-hours engagement.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain, modify, and troubleshoot legacy applications written in RPG, RPG III, RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, and Control Language (CL)
• Investigate and resolve operational bugs, batch run issues, and user reported system problems
• Serve as technical liaison to the hosting provider for system maintenance, OS patching, and environmental adjustments
• Manage application level security, user profiles, and object level authority, and monitor system audit logs
• Manage job queues, active subsystems, and application level job scheduling
• Coordinate with the hosting provider's storage and backup teams on backup windows, disaster recovery testing, and restoration verification
• Query, manage, and tune DB2 for i databases, including SQL optimization and indexing
• Support secure, automated file transfers (SFTP/FTP) between the AS400 environment and downstream systems
• Document system flows, database schemas, and interdependencies to support ongoing cloud migration efforts

Education and Certifications:
No specific degree required. Equivalent hands on experience will be considered.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of hands on AS400 (IBM i, iSeries) application development and support experience
• Strong proficiency in RPG IV (ILE RPG), RPGLE, CL, and SQL on DB2 for i
• Prior experience working in a hosted or managed AS400 environment
• Proven background in application-level IBM i work management, subsystem coordination, and security administration
• Experience with file transfer automation (FTP/SFTP)
• Must be local to the Oklahoma City area or willing to relocate
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check per State of Oklahoma IT security standards

Preferred:

• Experience with legacy-to-cloud migration or data warehousing extraction
• Familiarity with RDi (Rational Developer for i)
• Prior public sector or insurance regulatory systems experience
