Position Overview

CLIENT is seeking an IT Quality/Test Engineer 4 to work directly with a software development team responsible for an Operator Monitoring System focused on operator safety. The QA Engineer will primarily perform Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing, with some Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, and will develop automated test solutions to support high-quality software delivery.

The position will work closely with approximately 10 software team members, including an Architect, QA Engineer, Systems Engineer, and developers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review software feature requirements and define test cases based on acceptance criteria.
  • Execute software testing and document detailed test results.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks.
  • Perform primarily SIL testing and some HIL testing.
  • Collaborate with developers and systems engineers to understand requirements and design decisions.
  • Provide feedback to development teams regarding test results and software testability.
  • Participate in daily standups, story refinement, and feature refinement meetings.
  • Work with Software Architects to discuss software design and testing considerations.
  • Troubleshoot issues and communicate findings clearly to technical teams.
  • Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation.

  • Internships may be considered as experience where applicable, but coursework or academic projects alone will not be counted as professional experience.

Team & Work Environment

The QA Engineer will work within two development teams of approximately 10 members each. Typical team structure includes:

  • 1 Architect
  • 1 QA Engineer
  • 1 Systems Engineer
  • 7 Developers

The QA Engineer will also interact with a separate systems team consisting of a Domain Architect, Technical Program Manager, Integration Engineer, and Systems Engineers.

The role involves daily interaction with development and systems teams to understand requirements, review test results, troubleshoot issues, and provide input on software design and testability. The work environment is primarily office-based and collaborative, with team members distributed across North American Caterpillar locations.
