This is a Hybrid role (part-time in-office), Remote Mondays and Fridays, Office (LC3 Oakbrook Terrace) Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Site visit for each project once per month
Monday through Friday, 5x8hrs/week (Core Hours are 09:00 to 15:00)
Overview
Our client is seeking a Project Manager to oversee utility installation and relocation projects within the West-Suburban region. This role is responsible for the full project lifecycle, including the interpretation of civil construction plans, financial forecasting of monthly cash flows, and conducting field walkdowns across various regional sites. The successful candidate will ensure that utility projects spanning electric, gas, or water are executed efficiently, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining strong oversight of contract proposals and vendor bids.
Responsibilities
Manage a workload of 10-12 active utility projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
Review and interpret complex civil construction plans to ensure project alignment with engineering standards.
Develop and maintain accurate financial forecasting, specifically managing monthly cash flows for all assigned projects.
Evaluate and review contract proposals and bids to ensure competitive and qualified selection of vendors.
Conduct regular site visits and field walkdowns across the West-Suburban region, including areas such as Rockford, Elgin, Freeport, DeKalb, Aurora, and Crystal Lake.
Coordinate with engineering and construction teams to resolve technical issues related to utility relocation.
Facilitate project meetings and provide regular status updates to stakeholders using professional behavioral communication standards.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor s degree in Engineering, a Technical field, or Project Management.
3+ years of professional Project Management experience.
Significant experience in the Utility sector (Electric, Gas, or Water) or Civil Construction, specifically working on utility installation/relocation projects.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting civil construction plans.
Proven experience in financial forecasting and managing monthly project cash flows.
Demonstrated experience reviewing contract proposals and vendor bids.
Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to navigate behavioral-based reporting and interviews.
Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently to various field locations within the regional territory.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Direct Utility Relocation experience gained with a utility provider, construction firm, or engineering firm.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Professional Engineer (PE) license
