The Kansas State Legislature is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to join the Kansas Legislative Office of Information Services (KLOIS) team. The KLOIS supports the software applications and infrastructure needs of the Kansas Legislature through the integration of the processes and functions of the Revisor of Statutes Office, the Senate and House Chambers, and the Kansas Legislative Research Department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of duties and will be comfortable working closely with the KLOIS team members and our diverse customer base.
The position will be responsible for researching new technologies and assisting team members in adopting new tools quickly. The duties in this position are a mix of application development and DevOps functions or development of DevOps expertise alongside application development.
Core competencies: - SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) experience in a mission-critical, public-facing web application support environment
- Strong research skills, willingness to learn new technologies, and help others adopt new tools
- Ability to work with customers in understanding business imperatives
- Creating and managing workflows and mapping those to modern technology stacks
Responsibilities Include: - Meet with stakeholders to understand workflows and system requirements
- Design and develop software according to documented requirements
- Code review, both giving and receiving feedback
- Assist in DevOps functions for the application team
- Application maintenance and support
- Troubleshoot reported application issues
- Providing legislative session support
Required Skills: - Experience in the design of custom public-facing software applications
- Competency in translating functional and technical requirements into sound software applications
- Working experience with Django, Python, VSTO, and React JS
- Understanding of relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Interest and willingness to learn technologies for developing in a cloud-based environment
Preferred Skills and Experience: - Five or more years of experience in designing and developing custom software applications
- Git Version Control and DevOps experience in a cloud environment (AWS preferred)
- Mobile application design and development
- C#, GraphQL, Celery, Office.js, Typescript, Material UI, Redux Toolkit and RTK, Vite
- API design and security around public-facing applications
Education and Experience: - Bachelor's Degree from a recognized institution in Computer Science or Information Systems
- Experience may be substituted for education at the discretion of KLOIS management
