About the Role
Our client, a global technology leader in connected construction, geospatial solutions, and industrial software, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This organization develops innovative platforms that integrate job site operations with back-office systems, helping customers improve efficiency, data accuracy, and decision-making across complex projects.

In this role, you will serve as a technical leader, guiding architecture decisions, driving cloud-based development, and mentoring engineers while contributing to scalable, high-performance systems. You’ll work in an Agile environment that values simplicity, continuous delivery, and forward-thinking technology strategies.

• Lead the design and development of backend systems, APIs, and microservices architectures
• Architect and implement event-driven data flows and service orchestration
• Develop and maintain cloud-native and cloud-agnostic applications (AWS/Azure)
• Build and document APIs supporting IoT devices and web-based applications
• Design and troubleshoot services for data ingestion, transformation, and storage
• Develop integrations across cloud platforms and services
• Participate in code reviews, design sessions, and Agile ceremonies
• Conduct unit and system-level testing to ensure quality and performance
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers

• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of Java experience developing backend services, SaaS platforms, APIs, and RESTful services
• Strong proficiency in Java and the Spring Framework (Maven or Gradle)
• Hands-on experience with AWS, including cloud-native development
• Proven experience designing and building microservices architectures and event-driven systems
• Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including mentoring engineers and guiding architectural decisions
• Experience with server and serverless infrastructure and DevSecOps practices
• Strong system design skills with a focus on scalability, performance, and extensibility
• Experience building cloud-native or cloud-agnostic applications
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
• Experience working with IoT protocols (e.g., MQTT, DDS)
• Ability to collaborate across teams and build clean API-driven integrations

• Experience with OpenAPI or AsyncAPI specifications
• Proficiency with Linux command line tools and environments
• Experience with Python
• Familiarity with NoSQL, relational, and time-series databases
• Experience using Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence)
