Description and Requirements Role Value Proposition: We are looking for a director of Mainframe SRE to lead a team of talented and passionate engineers who are responsible for the reliability, performance, and security of our Mainframe systems.
You will be part of the leadership team and report directly to the VP of Application Platform Technologies.
You will collaborate with other directors, managers, architects, and product owners to define and execute the vision and strategy for the modernization of our Mainframe platform and Mainframe workloads.
You will oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of the modernization of our Mainframe infrastructure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and resilience.
You will foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within your team and the managed service vendor who supports the Mainframe platform .
Key Responsibilities: - Manage, mentor, and coach a team of Mainframe SRE engineers, setting clear goals and expectations, providing regular feedback and performance reviews, and facilitating career development and growth.
- Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and processes for Mainframe SRE, including incident management, root cause analysis, postmortems, monitoring, alerting, logging, testing, automation, and documentation.
- Ensure that Mainframe systems meet or exceed the service level objectives (SLOs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) defined by the business and the customers.
- Drive the adoption of modern technologies and methodologies for Mainframe SRE, such as DevOps, Agile, CI/CD, cloud, containers, microservices and automation driving on-demand self-services for job restarts, region recycles, fail and stay DR, Hyper-swap and LCP.
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of Mainframe SRE projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the business objectives and priorities, and managing the risks, issues, and dependencies.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, peers, customers, vendors, and partners, on the status, progress, and outcomes of Mainframe SRE activities.
- Identify and resolve any technical, operational, or organizational challenges or impediments that may impact the Mainframe SRE team or the Mainframe platform.
- Continuously evaluate and optimize the Mainframe SRE team's performance, productivity, and efficiency, and implement appropriate actions and improvements.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends, developments, and best practices in Mainframe SRE and related fields, and leverage them to enhance the Mainframe platform and the Mainframe SRE team's capabilities and competencies.
Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills: Required Skills: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 5 - 10 years of experience in Mainframe SRE, Mainframe development, or Mainframe operations, with experience in a leadership or management role.
- Expert knowledge and hands-on experience with Mainframe technologies, such as z/OS, CICS, DB2, IMS, MQ, JCL, COBOL, REXX, Assembler, z/OS Connect, etc.
- Strong knowledge and experience with Mainframe SRE tools and frameworks, such as z/OSMF, SMP/E, RACF etc.
- Proficient in Mainframe SRE methodologies and practices, such as incident management, problem management, change management, configuration management, capacity management, performance management, security management, etc.
- Familiar with modern technologies and methodologies for Mainframe SRE, such as DevOps, Agile, and CI/CD.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire others, and to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to handle complex and ambiguous situations, and to deliver effective and timely solutions.
- Highly motivated, self-driven, and results-oriented, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.
Preferred Skills: - zSecure, MainView,& QRadar.
- Familiar with GenAI products to refactor legacy code.
- Familiar with Ansible & IBM Ansible collections for MF administration.
- Experience working with zLinux, Openshift, and automation platforms such as ansible.
Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role
requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $123,500 - $185,300. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
