Job Description
The client is seeking an experienced Firewall Engineer to design, build, and maintain advanced information security infrastructure. This role plays a critical part in protecting enterprise environments across on-premises and cloud platforms, ensuring a strong and resilient security posture.
Although the position is primarily remote, candidates must be local to Phoenix, AZ for network connectivity requirements, equipment pickup, and occasional team meetings.
The Firewall Engineer will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of network security tools and will work hands-on with a wide range of firewall, VPN, and security technologies in a high-impact environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise firewall and network security solutions
- Manage the full lifecycle of security tools, including configuration, testing, deployment, and ongoing administration
- Administer and support Cisco Firewalls, Azure Firewalls, and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA)
- Configure and manage VPNs, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and network monitoring platforms
- Ensure secure connectivity across on-premises and cloud environments
- Troubleshoot complex firewall and network security issues
- Maintain security best practices and ensure compliance with agency standards
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in firewall management and network security
- Strong experience with Cisco Firewalls and Firewall Management Center (FMC)
- Experience with Azure Firewall and cloud security environments
- Hands-on experience with Zscaler Private Access (ZPA)
- Strong understanding of VPN technologies and intrusion prevention systems
- Ability to configure, test, and administer enterprise-level security tools
Education & Certifications
- CCNA Security or CCNP Security (Required / Strongly Preferred)
