We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Engineer - Automation to lead complex engineering initiatives within our medical device manufacturing operations. This role applies advanced technical expertise to develop automated processes, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with GMP/ISO standards. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, project management skills, and deep knowledge of automation, process optimization, and equipment validation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and execute moderate- to high-complexity engineering projects ensuring safety, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, reporting, and cross-functional communication.
- Serve as a technical expert on automated machinery, equipment performance, and process standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on OEE, yield improvement, cost reduction, and process optimization.
- Develop machine specifications, coordinate supplier selection, and lead FAT/SAT and equipment validation activities.
- Write and execute engineering studies, DOE protocols, and IQ/OQ/PQ documentation.
- Provide advanced technical support for troubleshooting process issues and equipment failures.
- Maintain and revise engineering procedures, SOPs, and process documentation.
- Participate in GMP audits, ensuring accurate equipment records and compliance with Data Integrity and GDP principles.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across manufacturing, quality, and corporate engineering.
- Ensure compliance with all company, federal, state, and local regulations.
QualificationsEducation:- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree and/or University degree is required; focused degree in Engineering preferred.
Required:- A minimum of 4 years of professional work experience
- Experience in engineering within a medical device manufacturing environment
- Expertise in custom automated machinery, controls integration, and equipment validation.
- Strong proficiency with PLC logic, SCADA systems, and automation troubleshooting.
- Proven project management experience with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills with experience applying statistical methods.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Office and MS Project.
Preferred:- Knowledge of automation network architecture and automation database systems.
- Experience developing manufacturing standards.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing requirements.
Other:- May require up to 10% domestic and/or international travel to other sites and locations
