Summary

Job Title: UX Content Strategist

Location: Remote/WFH and only the first week onsite in any one of the following locations: NYC (and surrounding areas), Charlotte, San Antonio, DC, Irvine

Duration: 5 months+ contract

Number of Positions: 2 roles

Responsibilities:

  • Own the UX copy across web and desktop applications, including navigation labels, error messages, empty states, onboarding flows, tooltips, notifications, confirmation messages and instructional content.
  • Apply and evolve client's voice and tone guidelines within the product context, ensuring every word reflects our commitment to being warm, clear and trustworthy.
  • Partner with brand and marketing teams to maintain consistency between product language and broader client communications.
  • Engage in discovery and ideation alongside UX designers and researchers, contributing content thinking before a single pixel is placed.
  • Write content frameworks, conversation flows and content hierarchies that inform design structure — not just fill it in after the fact.
  • Prototype and test content alongside design, using real language to validate whether flows and concepts resonate with users.
  • Translate complex financial concepts, regulatory language and technical workflows into copy that is accessible, actionable and free of unnecessary jargon.
  • Work within the constraints of regulated financial communications, partnering with compliance and legal reviewers to produce content that is both human and approved.
  • Develop content for data-heavy dashboards, transactional workflows and advisor-client communication tools — contexts where precision and clarity are equally important.
  • Contribute to and maintain client's content design system, ensuring component-level copy patterns, terminology standards and writing guidelines are documented, accessible and consistently applied.
  • Create and manage a product terminology guide that keeps language consistent across teams and platforms.
  • Audit existing product copy regularly, identifying opportunities to improve clarity, reduce friction and strengthen the client voice.
  • Partner with UX designers, UX researchers, product managers and engineers as a full member of agile product teams.
  • Work closely with the compliance and legal teams to navigate regulatory requirements without sacrificing readability or warmth.
  • Facilitate content critiques and writing workshops that help teammates develop a shared appreciation for the role language plays in product quality.
  • Collaborate with data and analytics partners to measure the impact of content changes on user behavior and task completion.
  • Advocate for content strategy as a core component of the product development process — not an afterthought.
  • Contribute to the UX content community of practice, sharing frameworks, methodologies and lessons learned.
  • Help define content standards for emerging product areas, including AI-assisted advisor tools, personalized client experiences and digital onboarding flows.
  • Learn the basics of generative AI, large language models, and prompt engineering.  Understand the strengths, limitations, and risks of AI-generated content.
  • Write and iterate on prompts to achieve desired content outcomes. Test AI responses with real users and gather feedback. Use insights to refine prompts, flows, and content guidelines.
  • Regularly audit AI outputs for quality, consistency, and compliance. Implement checks for bias, misinformation, and harmful content.
  • Stay updated on legal and ethical standards for AI.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, UX writing, content strategy, information architecture or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
  • Three or more years of experience in UX writing, content design or content strategy in a product or technology environment.
  • A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end content work, including your process, the problems you solved and the decisions behind the words — not just the final copy.
  • Deep proficiency in plain language writing, with the ability to simplify complex or technical subject matter without losing accuracy.
  • Experience writing for product interfaces across a range of content types: UI copy, instructional text, error messages, onboarding flows, empty states and notifications.
  • Familiarity with content design systems, style guides and terminology standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with design and product teams in agile development environments.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with experience presenting content rationale to cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience writing for financial services, wealth management, insurance or similarly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with compliance review processes and experience writing content that meets regulatory requirements without sacrificing human warmth.
  • Knowledge of advisor-facing tools, client portals or data-rich financial dashboards.
  • Experience building or scaling a UX writing or content design practice within a mid- to large-sized organization.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, including experience working directly in design files alongside UX designers.
  • Familiarity with content testing methods, including A/B testing, comprehension testing and usability studies focused on content.
  • Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as they apply to written content, including plain language principles and reading level considerations.
  • Interest in how AI-generated content and conversational interfaces are reshaping UX writing as a discipline.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Command of language: You write with precision and warmth — finding the exact right word for the exact right moment and knowing why it matters.
  • Design partnership: You understand that content and design are inseparable, and you show up as a full creative partner — not a service provider.
  • Strategic thinking: You connect individual word choices to broader user goals, business outcomes and brand identity.
  • Empathy for users: You write for real people navigating real pressures — and you never default to corporate language when a human one is available.
  • Comfort with constraints: You thrive in environments where regulatory, technical and brand requirements all have a seat at the table — and you find creative ways to honor them all.
  • Collaborative influence: You build trust with partners across design, product, legal and compliance, and you know how to advocate for better language without making it adversarial.
  • Curiosity and rigor: You ask why things are worded the way they are, and you back up your recommendations with user research, testing and evidence.
