Summary
Pay Rate: $30 - $35/hr
We have an immediate long-term opportunity for a SQL Server DBA / Migration Consultant to support a large-scale database modernization and migration initiative. The consultant will be responsible for upgrading legacy SQL Server environments and building new SQL Server 2022 instances on Windows platforms following industry best practices. The role involves installing and configuring SQL Server environments, designing storage layouts, configuring TempDB, and ensuring optimal system performance and reliability. The consultant will also play a key role in migrating databases from older SQL Server versions to new platforms using methods such as backup and restore, detach/attach, log shipping, and export/import techniques while ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
To be successful in this position, one needs to have strong hands-on experience with steady-state SQL Server DBA responsibilities including backup management, access provisioning, SQL Agent job administration, monitoring database environments, reviewing error logs, and troubleshooting database issues. The consultant should have working knowledge of performance fundamentals such as indexing strategies, query execution plans, wait statistics, and identifying system bottlenecks. Experience using migration and assessment tools such as Azure Migrate and Data Migration Assistant (DMA) to perform discovery, compatibility checks, and remediation planning is highly desirable.
The consultant will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, infrastructure teams, Oracle DBAs, and SAP administrators to support database migration activities for enterprise platforms including SAP, SAP BusinessObjects, SAP BODS, and OpenText environments. Familiarity with database collation requirements, permissions, and version compatibility considerations for these platforms is important. Exposure to Azure infrastructure, SQL Server on Azure VMs, and disaster recovery concepts such as Azure Site Recovery (ASR) would be beneficial. Additional experience with PowerShell automation, dbatools, T-SQL troubleshooting, and basic understanding of Unix/Linux environments is considered a plus.
