Job Title: Backend Engineer with Kafka

Location: Irving, TX / Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
Job Type: Contract

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer with Kafka to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and event-driven systems. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in backend development, Apache Kafka, distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and relational or NoSQL databases. This role involves building high-performance microservices, integrating messaging platforms, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable enterprise solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
Build and support event-driven applications using Apache Kafka.
Develop microservices and backend components using Java or Python.
Design and optimize Kafka producers, consumers, topics, and streaming pipelines.
Develop RESTful APIs and integrate with enterprise applications.
Write and optimize SQL queries and database operations.
Troubleshoot production issues and improve system performance.
Participate in code reviews and follow software development best practices.
Collaborate with DevOps, QA, Product, and Architecture teams.
Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployments.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of backend development experience.
Strong experience with Apache Kafka.
Experience developing REST APIs and Microservices.
Strong programming experience in Java or Python.
Experience with SQL and relational databases.
Familiarity with Git and CI/CD tools.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Spring Boot or similar backend frameworks.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis).
Experience with Kafka Streams or Apache Flink is a plus.
