Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Job Location: Johnston, IA
Job Type: Contract
Pay Range: $17.00hr - $22.00hr
Job Overview:
With guidance from a supervisor, the candidate assists technical personnel in general laboratory operations and routine laboratory or information handling tasks in support of scientific research. Tasks are performed according to accepted methods and training prescribed by the work group.
Core Responsibilities:
- Work in laboratory, greenhouse, and field settings.
- Perform plant sampling, DNA extraction, high-throughput PCR, and laboratory inventory sample management.
Technical Skills and previous experience:
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as DNA extraction and PCR.
- Familiarity with basic computer programs such as Microsoft Excel.
- 1+ years of prior relevant experience working in a research laboratory environment.
Safety and Compliance:
- Understand and follow Environmental Health and Safety standards.
- Use safety procedures and appropriate mandated PPE.
Educational Requirements:
BS in Biology, Agricultural Science, or related fields.
Experience Requirements:
Experience with PCR / DNA extraction and background in microbiology, plants, or animals.
Additional Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with effective documentation and communication of results.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to follow standard operating procedures and adhere to safety protocols.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
