Position: Database Administrator with PostgreSQL DBA & Google Cloud Platform Experience

Location: Dearborn, MI Onsite

Duration: Fulltime

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Administrator (Google Cloud Platform):
• Design, build, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in Google Cloud Platform (Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, or GKE-based deployments).
• Perform advanced performance tuning, query optimization, index management, and capacity planning.
• Implement and maintain high availability (HA), replication (logical/physical), and failover strategies.
• Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions, including PITR in Google Cloud Platform.
• Enforce database security best practices, access management, encryption, and network policies.
• Automate operational tasks using Terraform, Python, Bash, or Cloud Functions.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database performance using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, or thirdparty tools.
• Collaborate with application, DevOps, and platform teams to support database integration and CI/CD pipelines.
• Perform rootcause analysis on database incidents and implement longterm fixes.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, regulatory policies, and audit requirements.
• Collaboration & SME Leadership:
• Act as the primary SME for PostgreSQL in Google Cloud Platform.
• Provide guidance, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to operations teams.
• Work closely with vendors, engineering teams, and stakeholders to support strategic initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 8+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, including deep knowledge of PostgreSQL internals.
• Strong experience working in Google Cloud Platform environments, especially Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL.
• Expertise in performance tuning, explain plans, vacuuming strategies, and connection pooling (pgBouncer/pgPool).
• Strong understanding of Google Cloud Platform networking, IAM roles, VPC, and private services.
• Handson experience with backup/restore tools, WAL archiving, logical replication, and high-availability setups.
• Proficiency in Terraform (or other IaC tools), and scripting (Python/Bash).
• Experience with monitoring and alerting for PostgreSQL and cloud environments.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with BigQuery, GKE, or hybrid/multicloud PostgreSQL deployments.

• Knowledge of Kubernetes operators for PostgreSQL such as CloudNativePG, Patroni, or CrunchyData.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps practices, or SRE methodologies.
• Google Cloud certifications (e.g., Professional Database Engineer, Cloud Architect).

Soft Skills:

• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and lead technical initiatives.
