Summary

Engagement Manager - Detroit, Michigan

The Select Group's Energy & Utilities practice is seeking an Engagement Manager to support delivery of one of our largest clients in Detroit's Distribution Operations PMO engagement. This is a client-facing, delivery-focused role responsible for standing up and running the day-to-day operations of the program management office - from onboarding new team members to producing the reporting that keeps program leadership and the client informed of project health.

The ideal candidate combines solid program/project management fundamentals with a strong aptitude for data, reporting, and modern tools - someone who is as comfortable facilitating a stakeholder meeting as they are building a clean, accurate status report.

Key Responsibilities

PMO Operations & Delivery
  • Support day-to-day execution of the DTE Distribution Operations PMO, ensuring project management processes, tools, and cadences are consistently applied across the program.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for onboarding new team members and contractors - leading onboarding sessions, walking new hires through PMO tools, processes, and client expectations, and ensuring a smooth ramp-up.
  • Coordinate program administration tasks, including scheduling, documentation management, meeting logistics, and maintenance of PMO artifacts and repositories.

Data, Reporting & Analysis
  • Own the collection, validation, and analysis of project data across the program, including schedule, cost, resource, and risk information.
  • Track and report on project health status, KPIs, and SLAs, identifying trends, risks, and areas requiring escalation.
  • Use AI-enabled tools and modern reporting/analytics platforms to streamline data collection, improve accuracy, and accelerate turnaround on status reporting.
  • Build and maintain clear, executive-ready reporting deliverables (dashboards, status decks, scorecards) for program leadership and client stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement
  • Partner closely with client and TSG program leadership to ensure reporting and communication needs are met accurately and on schedule.
  • Support governance meetings, status reviews, and steering committee sessions with accurate, well-prepared materials.

Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of program/project management experience, ideally within utilities, energy, infrastructure, or a related capital-intensive industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading onboarding, training, or team ramp-up activities.
  • Strong data and reporting skills - comfortable working in Excel/Power BI or similar tools to collect, structure, and analyze project data.
  • Experience with or strong interest in applying AI tools to improve reporting efficiency and project health analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate data into clear, executive-level narratives.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams and administrative responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work onsite in Detroit, MI, 3 days per week.

Preferred
  • PMP certification or equivalent.
  • Prior experience supporting a distribution operations, capital program, or utility PMO.
  • Familiarity with project controls tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Maximo) a plus.
