Summary

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Software Certification Engineer 2 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will conduct software process audits to verify that aviation product software is developed, documented, and released in a way that complies with all internal software development processes and aviation software standards (RTCA DO-178B/C). You will work collaboratively with project teams to find and document evidence of compliance, and to address deficiencies as required. Additonally, conduct and manage multiple release audits in parallel while maintaining thorough audits with high attention to details.

Essential Functions
  • Complete Aviation focused Software Quality Assurance audits to ensure compliance
  • Leverage Aviation quality standards and procedures and ensure they are applied on projects appropriately.
  • Interpret and Apply RTCA DO-178B/C to ensure compliance throughout audits and reviews
  • Proposes solutions to issues that arise in RTCA DO-178B/C document completion or audit closure
  • Shares process expertise with product devlopment teams and suggests process improvements
  • Manage project status, mitigate challenges, and drive progress in a timely manner
  • Conduct effective DO-178 process sampling involving source code analysis, requirements, testing or process.
  • Delegated the ability to approve software life cycle data for compliance to RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C, in support of product TSOAs or conformitites
  • Work with Software Engineering teams and internal certifcation experts to negotaite resoutions to audit and documentation issues
  • Balance multiple project assignments and independent due dates using effective time management and prioritzation
  • Participate in the maintenance of software standards and forms

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must possess a minimum of 1 year experience in at least one of the following areas: software development processes, process auditing, or aviation software regulatory documentation
  • Demonstrated proficient use and knowledge of engineering tools to complete well defined basic tasks and/or projects
  • Superior organizational, analytical skills, time management and follow-up skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word & Excel

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience working with RTCA DO-178B/DO-178C process
  • Experience in software development/verification
  • Software root cause analysis experience
