The Senior Manager Service Engineering leads a team dedicated to ensuring products, systems, and equipment are designed and supported for maximum serviceability, minimal downtime, and optimal lifecycle cost. The Senior Manager leads a team of Global Service Engineers responsible for developing service strategies, Service Bills of Material (sBOMs), Level of Repair Analyses (LORA), service documentation requirements, and product improvement initiatives. The manager provides both technical oversight and organizational leadership to embed maintainability principles throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain a formal Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) process across all product platforms.
  • Define repair-versus-replace strategies at the component, assembly, and system levels.
  • Evaluate repair decisions based on lifecycle cost, reliability, maintainability, service complexity, and customer impact.
  • Establish repairability standards for major generator subsystems including engines, alternators, control systems, power electronics, fuel systems, and transfer switches.
  • Utilize LORA outcomes to influence product architecture, service parts strategy, and maintenance planning.
  • Own the strategy, development, governance, and continuous improvement of Service Bills of Material (sBOMs).
  • Establish processes for transforming Engineering Bills of Material (eBOMs) into service-ready structures.
  • Define service assemblies, service kits, replacement components, and maintenance parts required to support products throughout their lifecycle.
  • Partner with Product Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Product Management to ensure accurate service parts planning.
  • Ensure service BOM structures are maintained within PLM, ERP, and aftermarket support systems.
  • Drive service parts simplification and standardization initiatives to optimize inventory and lifecycle support costs.
  • Establish service parts readiness requirements for all new product introductions.
  • Design and direct the work of the team.
  • Select, coach, and develop staff.
  • Set clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team.
  • Manage performance by recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Oversee and assign activities and responsibilities for projects assigned to ensure timelines and budgets are met.
  • Lead Engineers through the implementation of new technologies and equipment.
  • Define resource needs and works within budget and staffing parameters to accomplish objectives for area of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or related degree OR 8 years related experience in the Engineering and Service Engineering function within a similar working environment.
  • 10 years' experience working and supporting a product service organization 5 years of progressive Engineering and/or product service management experience in similar work environment.
  • Experience with development and maintenance of engineered products.
  • Experience using SAP/MRP or equivalent ERP.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Technical Management or Business Management.
  • 15 years' experience with a focus on maintainability, service engineering, or product architecture.
  • Familiarity with principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
  • Experience working with field service operations, service organizations, or aftermarket support.
  • Deep understanding of maintainability analysis methods, service architecture, and design-for-maintainability best practices.
  • Demonstrated success implementing maintainability standards across large engineering organizations.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Service Bill of Material (sBOM) development and governance.
  • Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) methodologies.
  • Design for Serviceability (DFS).
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
  • Service parts strategy and lifecycle support planning.
  • Warranty and reliability analytics.
  • Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Financial acumen and understanding of key business metrics.
  • Knowledge of GEIA-STD-0007, MIL-STD-1388, or similar standards.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
