Position Overview
Firefly Aerospace is seeking a highly motivated
Avionics Manufacturing Engineer to play a key role in scaling and optimizing the company's in-house avionics manufacturing operations. This is an exciting opportunity to influence production strategy, drive process improvements, and help build the manufacturing systems that support Firefly's ambitious launch schedule and expanding product portfolio.
Working from Firefly's electronics manufacturing facility in
Cedar Park, Texas, you will partner closely with engineering, production, quality, and test teams to ensure efficient, high-quality manufacturing of critical avionics hardware used in next-generation space systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support avionics production from design release through final product delivery by identifying and eliminating manufacturing bottlenecks.
- Develop, optimize, and automate manufacturing and test processes to improve throughput, efficiency, and product quality.
- Lead the introduction of new products and engineering revisions into production.
- Investigate production non-conformances, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with design engineers to improve manufacturability, standardization, and production readiness.
- Plan and execute equipment, tooling, facility, and production layout upgrades to support increasing production demands.
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes, production planning systems, quality procedures, ERP workflows, and data collection methodologies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the manufacturing organization.
- Support integration, testing, and launch operations as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in manufacturing, production, or design of electrical or mechanical hardware (internships and relevant collegiate projects considered).
- Experience with electronic box builds, battery assemblies, or cable harness manufacturing.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and drive initiatives forward.
- Hands-on engineering mindset focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience establishing and scaling low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environments.
- Background developing manufacturing processes for new electronic products.
- Experience procuring and implementing new manufacturing equipment and production processes.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling software.
- Familiarity with IPC standards, including:
- IPC/WHMA-A-620
- IPC-A-610
- IPC-J-STD-001
- Experience creating work instructions, manufacturing standards, and operator procedures.
- Working knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), ERP platforms, and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
