Vertex is seeking an AI Product Engineer to help design, build, and deploy AI-driven products that support both external customers and internal workflows. This role is well-suited for early-to-mid career engineers who demonstrate strong ownership, curiosity, and the ability to turn ideas into working systems through academic, personal, or early professional experience.

You will work across the full product lifecycle - from problem discovery to production deployment - applying machine learning and generative AI techniques to real-world challenges. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience building production AI products while learning best practices for creating stable, truthful, and helpful AI systems .

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and deploy AI-driven products from concept to production, owning well-defined problem areas with increasing independence
Develop proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and scalable implementations using machine learning and generative AI
Apply ML and GenAI techniques to real business workflows, balancing experimentation with production reliability
Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to understand pain points and translate them into effective AI solutions
Lead technical discussions and coordinate execution across engineering, product, and domain partners
Read, experiment with, and apply techniques from ML/GenAI research papers to practical product challenges
Stay current on emerging AI trends and thoughtfully apply new approaches where they create value

Required Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to build and ship end-to-end software or AI projects through academic, personal, internship, or early-career professional experience
Strong foundation in machine learning and generative AI concepts, with hands-on application
Proficiency in full-stack development fundamentals, including backend services, frontend interfaces, and UI/UX principles
Experience independently delivering projects or features, taking ownership from idea to working implementation
Ability to read, understand, and apply techniques from ML/GenAI research papers
Strong communication skills and comfort engaging with stakeholders to understand workflows and business logic
Relevant experience may come from internships, academic research, personal projects, open-source contributions, or early-career roles

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to consulting, client-facing, or complex problem-solving environments
Familiarity with tax software, financial systems, or operational business workflows
Experience building internal tools or workflow automation
Entrepreneurial mindset or strong interest in building AI products from the ground up
Portfolio or work samples demonstrating AI projects (e.g., GitHub repositories, case studies, research, or demos)
Ability to thrive in an agile, fast-moving environment with evolving problem spaces

Pay Transparency Statement:

US Base Salary Range: $104,900.00 - $136,400.00

Base pay offered to new hires may vary based upon factors including relevant industry and job-related skills and experience, geographic location, and business needs.* The range displayed does not encompass the full potential of the role, which allows for further growth and career progression.

In addition, as a part of our total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Vertex Bonus Plan (VOB), a role-specific sales commission/bonus, and/or equity grants.
