Summary

Commercial Systems Architect

Engagement Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
Work Arrangement: Remote

Overview

The Commercial Systems Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise-level commercial platforms with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce as part of an ERP ecosystem. This role bridges business strategy and technical execution to deliver scalable, secure, and customer-centric commerce solutions supporting both B2B and B2C operations.

This is a hands-on architecture role, not a pure advisory position. The architect will work across multiple concurrent initiatives, including marketing, sales, and client-facing applications, and is expected to participate in solution design and technical execution.

The position begins as a consulting engagement with the intention of converting to full-time employment for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce, including integration with ERP and supporting systems.
  • Design and document scalable architecture covering catalog management, pricing models, customer identity, order management, and storefront UX/UI.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business and technical stakeholders, translating commercial strategy into executable technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with product managers, functional consultants, developers, integration teams, QA, and operations teams across multiple initiatives.
  • Ensure alignment with Microsoft Success by Design principles and recommended best practices.
  • Architect inbound and outbound integrations using Azure services, APIs, middleware, and data platforms.
  • Support reporting, analytics, and insights through Power BI and related data solutions.
  • Implement and deploy cloud-based and SaaS commercial applications, including mobile-enabled experiences.
  • Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and patterns for performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Support marketing, sales, and post-sale systems across the commercial lifecycle from prospecting and engagement through conversion and retention.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership when needed, including solution configuration, troubleshooting, and proof-of-concept development.
  • Present architecture options, cost estimates, and implementation timelines to executive and business stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 17+ years of overall IT industry experience
  • 10+ years in a Systems or Solutions Architect role
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce within an ERP-centric environment
  • Strong architectural knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Power Platform, and enterprise integration patterns
  • Experience working across multiple systems and platforms (ERP, commerce, marketing, analytics, customer-facing applications)
  • Familiarity with ERP platforms such as JD Edwards, Oracle EBS, or similar systems
  • Experience with cloud-native, mobile, and SaaS-based commercial solutions
  • Solid understanding of UI/UX principles and customer-centric system design
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical teams and business stakeholders
  • Willingness to be hands-on, not just provide high-level guidance
  • Open to contract-to-hire conversion and increased travel upon FTE transition

Education

  • Bachelor s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Solution Architect Expert
  • Experience with Success by Design and/or Microsoft FastTrack engagements
  • Background supporting commercial platforms in retail, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical environments
