This role requires hands-on technical experience in an operational environment where system availability directly affects visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support museum information technology, gallery, theater, and public-facing systems.
  • Troubleshoot Windows and macOS workstations, servers, network devices, media systems, peripherals, and interactive technology.
  • Support internal and guest connectivity, including VLANs, VPNs, Wi-Fi networks, and approved remote-access environments.
  • Perform authorized system backup, restoration, software updates, patching, and data-protection activities.
  • Process and track authorized account, permission, onboarding, and offboarding requests through Government-approved procedures.
  • Diagnose hardware, software, connectivity, routing, and system-performance issues.
  • Support interactive displays, touchscreens, sensors, gallery projectors, media servers, and theater systems.
  • Work with AV and Exhibit Maintenance personnel to resolve problems affecting digital exhibits.
  • Provide technical support for presentations, streaming, lighting-control systems, and approved museum events.
  • Help maintain reliable visitor Wi-Fi while preserving separation from protected internal systems.
  • Document technical incidents, corrective actions, recurring problems, and system status.
  • Follow federal cybersecurity, access-control, equipment-use, and network-connection requirements.
  • Respond to incidents according to required severity, response, and resolution standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three to six years of systems administration, network support, desktop support, or related technical-support experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Windows and macOS environments.
  • Hands-on knowledge of VLANs, VPNs, Wi-Fi networks, firewalls, access controls, encryption, and general cybersecurity practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting workstations, network equipment, servers, projectors, interactive displays, or comparable technical systems.
  • Knowledge of cloud storage, hosted applications, SaaS platforms, backup, restoration, and disaster-recovery practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to nontechnical employees, volunteers, and operational stakeholders.
  • Ability to work onsite and provide support during weekends, holidays, or special events when required.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant professional experience and technical certifications may be considered in place of the preferred degree.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ are strongly applicable.
  • Cloud or platform certifications involving Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Workspace are desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • IT experience in a museum, gallery, library, theater, public attraction, or other high-availability environment.
  • Experience supporting digital asset management or collection-management databases.
  • Familiarity with AV integration, multiscreen video walls, interactive touch tables, media servers, or digital kiosks.
  • Experience supporting live-streaming, event technology, projection, and lighting-control systems.
  • Knowledge of federal cybersecurity, CAC-enabled access, or Government virtual-desktop environments.
