Project Overview
The client is seeking a Business Analyst / LIMS Analyst Developer to support and enhance its LabWare LIMS v8 environment, API integrations, laboratory workflows, reporting, and laboratory informatics initiatives.
The role will work closely with laboratory scientists, the LIMS Supervisor, Section Chief Scientists, laboratory personnel, and leadership to gather requirements, coordinate system changes, improve workflows, and support the delivery of laboratory results.
The LIMS supports testing and reporting for Infectious Disease, Toxicology, and Environmental Chemistry, including specialized laboratory areas such as the Bioterrorism Response Lab, Chemical Threats Response Lab, and Next Generation Sequencing Lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Support LabWare LIMS v8 and API integrations.
- Provide HL7 integration architecture, development, enhancement, testing, and support.
- Program, troubleshoot, and support LIMS functionality.
- Gather, analyze, and document business and system requirements.
- Translate user needs into business and technical requirements.
- Create user stories and test scripts based on documented requirements.
- Evaluate and test software functionality to ensure it meets business needs.
- Perform User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Develop workflow documentation and flow diagrams.
- Identify system performance indicators and recommend improvements.
- Support communication with UPHL leadership regarding LIMS priorities, data security, and informatics needs.
- Work with laboratory personnel to coordinate system changes and enhancements.
- Train end users on complex software systems.
- Perform data retrieval and work with large databases.
- Evaluate processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare clear technical and business documentation.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working as a Business Analyst.
- Experience gathering, analyzing, and documenting requirements.
- Experience evaluating processes and translating requirements into technical specifications.
- Experience with relational databases and SQL.
- Experience working with complex software systems.
- Experience evaluating and testing software functionality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and laboratory leadership.

- Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete work across multiple complex projects.
- Experience creating documents and reports using Microsoft Word and Excel.

- Environmental Chemistry: Sample preparation and analysis batches, detection and reporting limits, standards and reagents, instrument/reagent/field blanks, and TNI/EPA reporting regulations.
- Infectious Disease: Chain of custody, reagent batches, cultures, reportable-result algorithms, reflex rules, and CLIA/FDA/CDC reporting elements.
Preferred Technical Experience

- Minor LabWare LIMS coding modifications
- Customized reporting using Crystal Reports
- Experience supporting LIMS used in Infectious Disease, Toxicology, or Environmental Chemistry laboratories

A degree in one of the following areas is listed as a typical qualification:
- Epidemiology
- Laboratory Science
- Computer Science
- Informatics
Experience in Epidemiology, Information Technology, or Informatics is also relevant.
