Summary

Automation Engineer I
Location: Pittsburgh, PA, onsite five days per week
Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation: $100,000 to $125,000 base salary, plus 15% bonus, equity options and benefits

The Opportunity
IntePros is seeking an Automation Engineer I to join an expanding advanced biomanufacturing operation. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to receive hands-on mentorship while helping build, support and eventually own critical automation systems at a growing manufacturing site.
The engineer will work with senior automation resources and collaborate with Facilities, Engineering, Operations, Quality and Validation. The role involves designing, configuring, testing and troubleshooting systems that control manufacturing equipment, facility operations and process-data collection.
We are looking for someone who is naturally curious, technically strong and willing to work through problems independently. Experience in life sciences or another regulated industry is helpful, but the team can train the right person on GMP requirements.

What You'll Do
  • Support automation projects throughout design, development, testing, commissioning, implementation and ongoing maintenance
  • Configure, troubleshoot and provide day-to-day support for PLC, HMI, SCADA and historian systems
  • Support Rockwell/Allen-Bradley and Siemens control platforms
  • Read and maintain electrical drawings, wiring diagrams and control-loop documentation
  • Help specify, procure and implement new equipment and automation technologies
  • Support equipment installations, technology transfers and the introduction of new manufacturing processes
  • Develop test plans, execute test scripts and maintain systems in a validated state
  • Create and maintain SOPs, technical documentation, software records and training materials
  • Work with Quality and Validation teams to ensure systems meet regulatory and operational requirements
  • Assist business users with process-data collection, reporting, audit trails and system improvements
  • Support laboratory systems and automated lab equipment
  • Participate in a future on-call rotation once the facility becomes operational
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science or a related technical discipline
  • Approximately one to two years of experience in automation, controls, robotics or systems engineering
  • Strong co-op or internship experience may qualify someone ready for their first full-time engineering position
  • Foundational understanding of PLCs, HMIs, control loops and industrial automation
  • Experience reading electrical diagrams and troubleshooting automation hardware
  • Exposure to Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens or comparable PLC platforms
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research and work through technical issues
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work onsite in an industrial manufacturing environment, including required gowning
Helpful Experience
  • Ignition or another SCADA platform
  • Canary, OSIsoft PI or another process historian
  • OPC, EtherNet/IP or other industrial communication protocols
  • Control-panel and automation-hardware design
  • Computer-system validation, commissioning or validated manufacturing systems
  • GMP, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or other regulated manufacturing
  • 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11 or GAMP 5
  • Manufacturing execution systems such as Apprentice or Syncade
  • System integration involving SSO, Azure AD, Okta or role-based access controls
  • Robotics, process-data analytics or laboratory automation
This role offers significant training, direct access to senior engineers and the opportunity to grow with the automation function as the Pittsburgh team expands.
