- This position will report to the Indirect Senior Tax Manager and will focus on North American (Canada) transaction taxes (sales, use and GST), research, planning and audits. The position will require interaction with corporate accounting, business and operations, and IT groups within the Company. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and interpersonal communication skills, motivation and confidence to independently address and resolve issues. Other duties include:
- Oversee and execute the monthly indirect tax compliance cycle.
- Compile and prepare multi state U.S. and Canadian sales data for submission to third party tax preparers.
- Administer and maintain customer exemption certificates to ensure accuracy and compliance using exemption certificate technology.
- Research complex tax issues and provide clear, timely responses to inquiries from various business units.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to collect documentation required for tax audits and reverse audits.
- Support the implementation, testing, and maintenance of tax technology systems and upgrades.
- Assist with property tax filings, business license renewals, and related regulatory registrations.
- Review and resolve tax notices by conducting analysis, gathering data, and drafting responses.
- Prepare monthly journal entries and perform account reconciliations for tax related accounts.
- Develop and enhance compliance process documentation, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.
- Participate in special initiatives such as M&A due diligence, voluntary disclosure agreements (VDAs), and strategic tax planning projects.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor''s degree
- 5+ years corporate indirect tax experience with a multinational company or similar experience with Big 4 or a national tax firm
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication, analytical, and research skills
- Detail oriented and able to work in a highly deadline driven environment
- Ability to transfer the application of tax theory to business situations and transactions
- Knowledge of VAT/GST, Alteryx, Vertex, and/or Oracle a plus
1. Strong Indirect Tax Experience (U.S. & Canada)
must have solid experience with North American transaction taxes, specifically Sales Tax, Use Tax, and Canadian GST.
2. System Implementation / Tax Technology Experience
This role is not just compliance. The person will also help with tax system implementations and testing.
Looking for experience with UAT (User Acceptance Testing) or working with systems such as Vertex, Oracle, BMC
3. Experience Managing Third-Party Tax Preparers
The company uses an external firm for filings, therefore, this person will need to review, validate, and approve the data before submission.
4. Experience with Corporate Changes or Special Tax Projects
Candidates with experience in M&A activity, Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDAs), tax cleanups, or company transitions, will be a strong fit, as this role will support initiatives like these.
5. Strong Data and Reporting Skills
The candidate will be working with large datasets for multi-state and Canadian tax filings, so strong Excel skills are required.Experience with Alteryx, Vertex, or Oracle is a plus.
