Technical Transformation Lead – Google Workspace + Gemini + AI Platform

Role Summary
GM is undergoing a large-scale enterprise transformation to Google Workspace and Gemini Enterprise across 150,000+ users, including migration from Microsoft 365, modernization of collaboration systems, and implementation of AI-enabled workflows.
The Technical Transformation Lead will serve as the chief internal architecture authority and technical integrator for this transformation program. This role ensures GM maintains control over target architecture, integration patterns, security posture, and long-term platform design across all workstreams.
This is a senior technical leadership role accountable for ensuring that vendor execution aligns to GM’s enterprise architecture, security, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Enterprise Architecture Ownership
· Define and own the end-state Google Workspace + Gemini + identity architecture
· Establish architectural principles for:
· Email, calendar, and collaboration systems
· Google Drive / SharePoint replacement strategy
· Identity integration (Entra ID / SSO / provisioning)
· Data governance and retention (Vault / Purview coexistence)
· AI enablement (Gemini Enterprise and agentic capabilities)
· Ensure architecture is scalable, supportable, and aligned with GM’s enterprise standards
2. Technical Governance & Decision Authority
· Serve as GM’s technical approver for all major design decisions
· Review and approve all:
· Migration strategies and wave plans
· Identity and directory synchronization models (GCDS, Entra ID integration)
· Security configurations (DLP, CAA, Assured Controls)
· Data migration tooling and patterns
· Work transformation approaches (Apps Script, AppSheet, workflow redesign)
· Chair or co-chair Architecture & Design Review Board for the program
3. Vendor Technical Management
· Act as GM’s primary technical counterpart to Insight, Google, and any additional partners
· Ensure vendor proposals align to GM’s target architecture and do not introduce long-term lock-in or fragmentation
· Challenge and validate vendor assumptions, designs, and implementation approaches
· Ensure clear separation between:
· Vendor execution responsibility
· GM architectural authority
4. Integration & Platform Strategy
· Define integration patterns across:
· Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace
· Legacy Microsoft systems during coexistence
· Third-party enterprise applications (ServiceNow, SAP, Databricks, etc.)
· Ensure consistent approach to authentication, authorization, and data access
· Define long-term platform consolidation strategy across collaboration and AI systems
5. AI & Gemini Enterprise Enablement
· Define technical guardrails for Gemini Enterprise deployment
· Approve connector strategy, data access boundaries, and agent development frameworks
· Partner with security and legal to ensure safe adoption of AI capabilities
· Align AI use cases with enterprise data governance model
6. Risk, Compliance & Security Alignment
· Partner with CISO organization to ensure:
· Secure coexistence between Microsoft and Google ecosystems
· Proper handling of eDiscovery, Purview, and Google Vault
· Compliance with ITAR, DFARS, and internal GM policies
· Identify architectural risks early and define mitigation strategies
7. Program Technical Leadership
· Provide technical direction across all transformation workstreams:
· Messaging & collaboration migration
· SharePoint → Google Drive transformation
· Identity and provisioning
· Security and compliance architecture
· AI enablement and automation
· Ensure consistency across all technical designs and implementation waves
· Key Interfaces
· CIO / Enterprise IT Leadership
· CISO and Security Architecture teams
· Legal / eDiscovery leadership
· Data & Analytics teams
· Workstream owners (collaboration, identity, AI, etc.)
· External partners (Insight, Google, and others)
· Success Metrics
· Approved and stable enterprise target architecture
· Successful migration waves executed without architectural rework
· No unmanaged vendor-driven design drift
· Stable identity and security integration across ecosystems
· Successful Gemini Enterprise deployment aligned to governance model
· Clear, documented path for long-term platform consolidation
Ideal Background
· 10–15+ years in enterprise architecture, infrastructure, or platform engineering leadership
· Experience with large-scale cloud migrations (100k+ users preferred)
· Strong background in identity, collaboration platforms, or security architecture
· Experience with Microsoft 365 and/or Google Workspace at enterprise scale
· Familiarity with AI platforms, data governance, and enterprise integration patterns
· Prior experience in global transformation or systems integration programs strongly preferred
