Position Summary

We are seeking an Associate CAD Hardware Designer to support the development of advanced uncrewed military systems. This position will assist with the creation, modification, and checking of technical documentation and data packages for mechanical and electro-mechanical components, subassemblies, top-level assemblies, payloads, and support equipment.

The Associate Hardware Designer will work under the direction of Senior Designers and Engineers, gaining hands-on experience developing 3D models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, electrical documentation, and other product definition deliverables.

This is a temporary developmental position intended for individuals currently enrolled in a technical degree program or equivalent training program. The role provides practical engineering design experience while the individual completes their academic studies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create mechanical 3D solid models from conceptual sketches, specifications, and engineering direction.
  • Develop component, assembly, and production drawings in accordance with ASME Y14 standards.
  • Apply GD&T principles in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up calculations for detail parts and subassemblies.
  • Generate production drawings supporting machining, sheet metal fabrication, forming, and weldments.
  • Assist with the development of electro-mechanical devices, equipment, and associated documentation.
  • Generate electrical schematics and wiring diagrams from sketches, drawings, datasheets, and engineering direction.
  • Translate engineering requirements into source control and vendor control documentation.
  • Catalog vendor- and supplier-controlled components, specifications, and CAD models.
  • Create and maintain engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Support the release of engineering specifications, drawings, BOMs, and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) within product lifecycle management systems.
  • Create, receive, and maintain JIRA tickets used to track design assignments.
  • Review and check engineering drawings for compliance with company requirements and applicable ASME standards.
  • Participate in engineering and design review meetings.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Designers, and Machinists to ensure accurate product definition.
  • Incorporate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback into designs and documentation.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical data packages used for production.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an Associate's degree in Drafting and Design Technology, Mechanical Design, CAD Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent training.
  • Experience with a common 3D solid modeling/CAD software package.
  • Experience with Siemens NX is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms is beneficial.
  • Understanding of mechanical drafting and engineering drawing principles.
  • Ability to visualize mechanical components and assemblies in three dimensions.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14 drawing standards.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5-2009 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and applications.
  • Exposure to mechanical design, aircraft hardware, military systems, or electro-mechanical integration is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new engineering tools and processes quickly.
