Job Description

Prometheus Energetics LLC is currently seeking a Trade Compliance Officer to establish, lead, and manage all aspects of export and import compliance for the company. Prometheus Energetics is a new US-based joint venture and will be a merchant supplier of solid rocket motors, energetics, and other adjacent product areas for the US and international defense markets.

This position is responsible for developing and executing the company's trade compliance program to ensure full adherence with all U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions. The role will interface with U.S. Government agencies, prime contractors, and internal functional leaders to ensure compliant global trade operations that support company growth objectives.

Responsibilities:

Export / Import Compliance

  • Serve as the company's Empowered Official under ITAR
  • Develop and manage export control policies, procedures, and training programs
  • Oversee classification of products, technology, and technical data under ITAR and EAR
  • Prepare, submit, and manage export licenses, Manufacturing License Agreements (MLAs), Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs), and other authorizations with DDTC, BIS, and OFAC
  • Review and approve international shipments, visitor authorizations, and technology transfers
  • Coordinate with supply chain, engineering, and program management to ensure compliance in contracts, procurements, and manufacturing activities
  • Develop & maintain import compliance procedures, including Customs and CBP regulations for inbound materials & equipment


Audits, Investigations & Recordkeeping

  • Establish and maintain export control recordkeeping systems in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and assessments; implement corrective actions as needed
  • Serve as primary liaison during government or customer compliance audits
  • Lead investigations of potential export violations and prepare voluntary disclosures when appropriate


Training & Communication

  • Develop and deliver trade compliance training to employees, management, and subcontractors
  • Communicate regulatory changes and ensure policies are updated accordingly
  • Support due diligence and Denied Party Screening (DPS) for suppliers, customers, and partners


Leadership & Strategy

  • Integrate trade compliance into all company operations, including engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and program execution
  • Advise senior leadership on export control implications of business decisions and partnerships
  • Collaborate with international partners to ensure compliance with U.S. and foreign export control regimes


Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Experience and Skills

Qualifications:

  • Deep working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and related U.S. export/import laws
  • Experience with DDTC registration, DSP licensing, and TAA management
  • Strong understanding of DoD contracting, classified programs, and technology transfer controls
  • Experience implementing export compliance programs in manufacturing or defense industries
  • Excellent communication and training skills, including experience interacting with senior leadership and government regulators
  • Proven ability to operate independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance


Education and Experience:

  • BS/BA from an accredited institution in International Business, Law, or related field
  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., ECoP , CUSECO , or similar) preferred
  • 10+ years of export/import compliance experience in the aerospace, defense, or energetics sector

  • Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, phones)
