Job Description:
Analytics Manager, Retail Pricing & Promotions

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

Position Overview

We are seeking an Analytics Manager, Retail Pricing & Promotions for a remote, contract-to-hire opportunity supporting a fast-paced retail analytics organization.

This is a highly hands-on analytics role for someone who can take an open-ended business question, determine the appropriate analytical approach, identify and extract the necessary data, and translate the results into clear, actionable recommendations for business leaders.

The ideal candidate combines strong SQL and Excel capabilities with business judgment and an understanding of retail analytics. You will work closely with senior leaders and cross-functional partners, independently lead complex analytical workstreams, and help the organization understand what's working, what's not, and where opportunities exist to improve pricing and promotional performance.

This position is fully remote and structured as a contract-to-hire opportunity, with the intention of converting to a permanent position based on business needs and performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end analytical workstreams focused on retail pricing, promotions, customer behavior, and business performance.
  • Partner with business leaders to translate ambiguous or open-ended questions into structured analytical approaches, hypotheses, and measurable outcomes.
  • Determine the appropriate datasets, metrics, and methodologies needed to answer complex business questions.
  • Write and troubleshoot SQL queries to extract, combine, validate, and analyze large datasets from multiple sources.
  • Conduct detailed analyses of promotional effectiveness, pricing changes, customer behavior, and financial impact.
  • Design and perform test-versus-control analyses to evaluate business initiatives and identify opportunities for broader application.
  • Identify the drivers behind positive and negative promotional performance and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Analyze customer segments and shopping behaviors to identify meaningful trends and business opportunities.
  • Perform advanced analysis in Excel, including pivot tables, advanced lookups, formulas, and complex data summarization.
  • Develop clear, executive-ready tables, charts, presentations, and recommendations.
  • Present analytical findings and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders and senior business leaders.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple concurrent and ad hoc analytical requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Partner with technical and business teams to navigate data limitations, identify appropriate data sources, and improve analytical processes.
  • Provide analytical guidance and thought leadership throughout the lifecycle of an initiative, from the initial business question through final recommendations.
Required Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in data analytics, business analytics, pricing analytics, customer analytics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong hands-on SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, filtering, data validation, and analysis of complex datasets.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP/XMATCH, complex formulas, and data summarization.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical approaches.
  • Experience owning complex analyses from initial problem definition through findings, recommendations, and stakeholder presentation.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect analytical findings to meaningful business outcomes.
  • Experience communicating complex analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple competing requests and independently drive work forward.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within retail, consumer, merchandising, pricing, promotions, or customer analytics.
  • Experience evaluating promotional effectiveness, pricing strategies, or ROI.
  • Experience designing or evaluating test-versus-control initiatives.
  • Experience analyzing customer segmentation, purchasing behavior, or transactional data.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake or another modern cloud-based data platform.
  • Experience working with large or fragmented datasets across multiple systems and data sources.
  • Understanding of core retail concepts, including pricing, promotions, product and category performance, customer behavior, and profitability.
What Success Looks Like
  • Success in this position requires more than executing predefined reports or SQL queries. The Analytics Manager will be expected to independently approach complex business problems and determine how data can be used to guide decision-making.
