Job Description

To design, implement, support, and maintain the Department of Computer Science's the state-of-the-art IT infrastructure and environment by using technical knowledge and skills to support network attached storage, desktops, servers, large-scale digital storage, MS Windows OS and services as well as aspects of IT security, virtualization, and major operating systems. To provide technical leadership to staff and faculty in supporting the mission of the Department of Computer Science to include providing direct supervision to one classified employee and several student workers.

Strong knowledge of administering MS Windows Server OS (2003 to current) and MS windows desktop OS (VISTA to current). Strong knowledge in administering Network Attached Storage in a replicated environment. Strong knowledge of administering a complex computer network (routers and switches) of over 1000 drops. Strong knowledge of security and patching for the above systems. Strong knowledge of administering a UNIX server environment. Strong customer service and problem resolution skills. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with peers, students, staff, and faculty to resolve technical problems with little or no supervision. Demonstrated strong ability to provide technical and project leadership to other staff.

Education or training

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be substituted.

Level and type of experience

Extensive experience administering MS windows server OS, MS windows desktop OS, and network attached storage (NAS) in a replicated environment. Extensive experience with administering UNIX systems. Extensive experience providing client support for networked computing platforms to include administering a complex network infrastructure that includes routers and switches. Extensive experience with systems design, security, and planning.

Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)

Strong knowledge of Solaris and LINUX operating systems. Strong knowledge of AFS, NFS and TSM Software products. Experience with .NET, C, C++, Perl programming languages. Experience with securing servers and documenting security measures for compliance verification. Experience supervising staff. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
