Job Summary
The Solution Architect will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing technology solutions for forensic science applications supporting all forensic services provided by the NYPD. This role requires close collaboration with forensic scientists, forensic leadership, law enforcement stakeholders, and development teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance systems that enable forensic analysis, evidence management, and data-driven investigations.
The ideal candidate brings a strong architecture background, experience in laboratory or forensic environments, and a passion for advancing forensic science through technology.
Key Responsibilities
Design and architect end-to-end technology solutions for forensic science and laboratory systems
Collaborate with forensic scientists, executives, and law enforcement teams to translate operational needs into technical architectures
Lead solution design for LIMS, digital forensics tools, and evidence management platforms
Ensure solutions support secure evidence handling, chain of custody, and compliance requirements
Apply hybrid project delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Scrum)
Evaluate and integrate AI/ML capabilities for forensic analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive analytics
Incorporate cybersecurity and data protection best practices, including secure evidence tracking
Ensure compliance with forensic standards, regulations, and legal requirements
Provide architectural guidance across development, integration, and deployment phases
Qualifications & Experience
< data-start="2202" data-end="2220">Education>Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
Master’s degree or certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, CISSP preferred
Minimum 2+ years of experience in one or more of the following domains:
Forensic Science
Criminal Justice / Law Enforcement
Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences (laboratory environments and systems)
Proven experience designing and implementing complex enterprise systems, such as:
LIMS
Digital Forensics Platforms
Evidence Management Systems
Experience working with government or law enforcement agencies
Strong understanding of forensic science workflows, including:
Evidence collection
Chain of custody
Laboratory operations
Familiarity with forensic standards and regulatory frameworks, including:
ISO 17025 / ISO 17020

OSAC
SWGDAM
NIST
Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations in forensic data handling
Nice to Have
Experience with AI/ML in forensic science (pattern recognition, predictive analytics)
Exposure to blockchain or advanced security models for secure evidence tracking
Familiarity with forensic tools such as ADAMS, CrimePad, QualTrax
Strong stakeholder communication in public sector environments
