Job Description – Manager, Clinical Cost Strategy

Position Summary

The Manager, Clinical Cost Strategy will be responsible for developing, managing, and communicating analytical cost frameworks that support outsourced clinical trial operations. This role partners closely with Strategic Partnerships & Outsourcing (SPO), Clinical Operations, Procurement, Finance, and external suppliers to ensure accurate cost modeling, financial predictability, and strategic decision-making across clinical programs.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, financial modeling, and stakeholder management skills, along with expertise in Excel/VBA-based automation and clinical outsourcing cost structures.


Key Responsibilities

Analytical Cost Structure & Modeling

  • Translate clinical operating models, resourcing strategies, and partnership arrangements into detailed and transparent cost frameworks.
  • Support the development of contracting and outsourcing strategies across multiple operating model approaches.
  • Design and optimize pricing templates, forecasting models, standards, and analytical tools for outsourced clinical activities.
  • Drive process improvements through workflow automation, enhanced reporting, and technology-enabled productivity initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Excel/VBA-based tools supporting SPO/CPO deliverables.
  • Build and manage integrations between Excel tools and external/commercial databases for automated and bi-directional data flow.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather business requirements and develop technical solutions for clinical cost data management and reporting.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Partner with Strategic Partnerships & Outsourcing, Clinical Operations, Procurement, Finance, and external vendors to ensure transparency and alignment on cost assumptions.
  • Translate scientific, operational, and business requirements into clinical pricing and cost modeling tools.
  • Facilitate discussions and consensus-building around pricing structures and outsourcing strategies.
  • Present cost analyses, financial insights, and scenario-based recommendations to stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Support supplier negotiations and strategic investment decisions through data-driven insights.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Life Sciences, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Experience in clinical outsourcing, clinical finance, cost modeling, procurement analytics, or strategic sourcing within the pharmaceutical/biotech/CRO industry.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, macros, and VBA programming.
  • Experience with financial forecasting, pricing models, and analytical reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
