Summary

In the early 1900s, Maria Montessori redesigned education by creating environments that guided learners toward independence. Instead of overwhelming people with instruction, she built structured systems that supported progress through clarity, momentum, and gradual mastery.

At Mercury*, we're exploring how intelligent systems can bring that same sense of structure and confidence to complex financial workflows.

We're hiring a Staff Product Designer to help define and design a next-generation AI-powered experience within Mercury's accounting ecosystem. This is a foundational role focused on turning sophisticated automation and domain logic into experiences that feel intuitive, reliable, and empowering.
What You'll Do

Shape Intelligent Product Experiences
  • Define how AI-driven capabilities integrate into complex financial workflows.
  • Translate emerging technical capabilities into structured, human-centered experiences.
  • Design systems that balance automation with clarity and user control.

Design for Complex Domains
  • Work within accounting and financial contexts where precision, trust, and correctness are critical.
  • Abstract technical and regulatory complexity into approachable interactions.
  • Anticipate edge cases and failure modes in high-stakes workflows.

Build Scalable Interaction Systems
  • Create modular patterns that support adaptive, state-aware experiences.
  • Design escalation models for when automation requires human input.
  • Contribute to reusable patterns that can extend across Mercury's product ecosystem.

Own End-to-End Execution
  • Frame ambiguous problem spaces.
  • Prototype new interaction models.
  • Design detailed workflows and high-fidelity UI.
  • Partner deeply with engineering and product to ship high-quality outcomes.

Influence Direction
  • Use narrative and prototyping to align cross-functional partners.
  • Connect design decisions to measurable business and user impact.
  • Help define principles for how intelligence should appear across Mercury products.
You Might Be a Great Fit If You:
  • Have 8+ years of experience owning complex, end-to-end product design initiatives.
  • Thrive in ambiguity and enjoy shaping direction, not just executing tickets.
  • Think in systems, not just screens.
  • Have experience in data-heavy, fintech, AI-powered, or workflow-driven products.
  • Are comfortable balancing automation with transparency and user trust.
  • Prototype fluidly to explore both logic and craft.
  • Care deeply about quality and correctness in high-stakes domains.
  • Have a strength in turning complex tasks into understandable workflows
