Description: Role Overview We are seeking a highly experienced
Transport Engineer IV to support
U.S. domestic long-distance transport networks, including
Ultra-Long-Haul (ULH) and
OTN Mesh environments. In this role, you will lead
capacity creation, network builds, and decommissioning efforts, working across engineering, planning, and operations teams to ensure reliable, scalable transport infrastructure.
This position requires deep technical expertise in legacy and modern transport systems, ownership of complex engineering initiatives, and the ability to execute with minimal supervision.
What You'll Do - Create and manage Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) to initiate transport network builds based on market plans, customer demand, and internal requirements.
- Engineer and oversee ULH network decommissioning, including removal of obsolete transport equipment.
- Design, initiate, and support network projects under Zero-Fill and Decommissioning (Decom) programs.
- Engineer solutions across long-distance, ultra-long-haul, and OTN Mesh transport networks.
- Evaluate and manage dependencies such as space, power, fiber availability, and network diversity to ensure successful project execution.
- Identify risks, resolve engineering issues, and remove performance roadblocks through effective stakeholder collaboration.
- Participate in regular project meetings and technical reviews to track progress and ensure alignment.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable engineering, operational, and performance standards.
Required Qualifications (Must-Have) - Proven experience in the telecommunications industry, specifically in long-distance transport engineering.
- Strong technical expertise in:
- SONET / SDH
- Ultra-Long-Haul (ULH) transport
- OTN Mesh
- WDM/DWDM networks
- Hands-on experience with Infinera equipment (required).
- Vendor experience with Ciena, Infinera, Fujitsu, and other long-haul transport platforms.
- Experience using carrier transport systems such as:
- BGW
- Canvas / CoFEE
- Nautilus
- ICON
- CCP
- Venue
- Ability to manage complex, multi-step engineering processes and consistently deliver results.
- Proficiency with Windows-based tools and enterprise database systems.
Preferred Qualifications - Strong ability to interpret engineering specifications, drawings, and design documentation.
- Experience managing equipment inventory, network design, and legacy transport systems.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and mitigate technical and operational risks.
- Comfortable working independently, with strong decision-making skills.
- Collaborative team player who drives outcomes across cross-functional groups.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
