We have an immediate need for an Android Performance Optimization Engineer for a position based in Cupertino, CA, USA. This role focuses on ensuring a flagship Android application delivers a highly responsive, efficient, and reliable user experience by optimizing performance across the mobile application stack.
In this role, the engineer will be responsible for analyzing and improving Android application performance across UI, rendering, and framework layers. The candidate will identify, diagnose, and resolve performance bottlenecks while optimizing memory usage, energy consumption, power efficiency, and thermal performance. The engineer will lead performance profiling efforts, conduct deep analysis of application behavior, and develop tools and automated frameworks to monitor performance. This role will also involve designing and maintaining specialized performance tests integrated with CI/CD pipelines to ensure performance consistency across releases. The engineer will act as a subject matter expert on Android performance, collaborate with development teams, review architectural decisions, and provide insights based on data-driven analysis to improve system reliability and user experience.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in Android development using Java or Kotlin and a deep understanding of Android OS architecture and performance challenges. Experience with Android performance profiling tools such as Profiler, Perfetto, systrace, dumpsys, ADB, and Battery Historian is important. The candidate should be proficient in diagnosing issues related to memory, power, thermal behavior, and UI rendering. Strong experience optimizing Android UI components, view hierarchies, RecyclerView, animations, and overdraw is valuable. Familiarity with performance testing frameworks such as Android Macrobenchmark, Microbenchmark, and Espresso is beneficial, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams in fast-paced development environments.
