Job Description:
  • The Junior Laboratory Technician will support laboratory screening operations by performing specimen testing, operating laboratory instruments, and reviewing test results.
  • The role involves maintaining screening equipment, troubleshooting instrumentation issues, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and security procedures.
  • The candidate will work in a controlled laboratory environment handling donor specimens and maintaining accurate documentation of laboratory activities.
Requirement/Must Have:
  • Bachelor s degree in Science or a related field.
  • Knowledge of laboratory screening and specimen validity testing methods.
  • Ability to operate laboratory instruments such as refractometers and pH meters.
  • Ability to follow laboratory procedures, safety standards, and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Experience:
  • Experience working with screening instruments and laboratory testing processes.
  • Experience performing specimen testing and reviewing laboratory results.
  • Experience troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation issues.
  • Experience working in regulated laboratory environments preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain screening instruments used for donor specimen testing.
  • Perform specimen validity testing using laboratory equipment including refractometers and pH meters.
  • Conduct screening test methods such as EIA, CEDIA, and ELISA.
  • Perform initial review of test results for donor specimens and quality control samples.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to screening instruments and laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure strict adherence to security procedures to maintain donor confidentiality.
  • Follow all organizational policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to laboratory testing activities.
Preferred Skills:
  • Understanding of analytical laboratory techniques and testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements including SAMHSA and CAP-FDT guidelines.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and laboratory software systems.
Competencies:
  • Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to perform full body movement and work in a laboratory environment.
  • Ability to read and understand SOPs and federal regulatory guidelines such as 49 CFR Part 40 and CAP-FDT.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and analytical reporting skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a production driven environment.
  • Ability to safely handle environments with potential exposure to hazardous materials.
