Shift: Second shift position Mon-Fri 2pm-1030pm at our OCC/CCC Data center located in Joliet IL.Operating Engineer - Joliet, IL - JLLWhat this job involves: As an Operating Engineer in Joliet, IL at JLL, you will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment, machinery, and related controls and components at our client's facilities. The client sites are located in Northern Illinois, and while Operating Engineers are primarily responsible for their assigned locations, you may be required to support other sites in the event of an emergency or to provide backup coverage. You'll control the daily operation of all mechanical equipment in the physical plant and buildings while performing maintenance and repairs to the Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to keep these systems up to applicable standards that reflect JLL's commitment to operational excellence and comprehensive facility management across Northern Illinois client sites.
What your day-to-day will look like:Mechanical Systems Operations and Control: Control daily operation of all mechanical equipment in physical plant and buildings while ensuring optimal system performance
Monitor operation and maintain refrigeration, water cooling and air conditioning equipment for optimal facility climate control
Oversee boilers, heating, ventilating and hot water equipment while ensuring efficient system operation and energy management
Manage pumps, valves, piping and filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment for comprehensive facility operations
Install, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment, machinery, and related controls and components
Maintenance and Repair Services: Perform maintenance and repairs to Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to maintain applicable standards
Execute installation, repair, and maintenance activities for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment with technical proficiency
Evaluate building systems to monitor and improve performance and operating efficiencies through continuous assessment
Monitor quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors for cost-effective service delivery
Perform all work using proper safety equipment and in safe manner while reporting safety issues to supervisor
Tenant Services and Client Support: Maintain responsibility for tenant services while ensuring timely and professional response to all service requests
Perform and complete all tenant service requests accurately and expediently for exceptional client satisfaction
Support client facilities across Northern Illinois with focus on operational reliability and service excellence
Provide backup coverage for other sites in event of emergency or staffing needs as required
Report property issues that are not within direct responsibility to supervisor or call center team
Preventative Maintenance Program Management: Formulate and implement preventative maintenance program for building in conjunction with Operations Manager
Perform preventative maintenance tasks in timely manner while maintaining comprehensive documentation
Execute preventative maintenance activities to extend equipment life and prevent costly failures
Coordinate maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with manufacturer recommendations and industry standards
Maintain responsibility for preventative maintenance planning and execution across assigned facilities
Purchasing and Inventory Control: Maintain responsibility for purchasing and inventory control while ensuring adequate supplies and materials availability
Comply with all purchasing and receiving policies and procedures for cost-effective operations management
Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for timely delivery of maintenance materials and equipment
Manage inventory levels to optimize operational efficiency while controlling costs and minimizing waste
Support contracted maintenance coordination and vendor relationship management
Safety and Compliance Management: Comply with all policies and procedures established for building operations and safety management
Complete all required training and safety programs while actively participating in emergency response procedures
Participate in technical and safety training programs for continuous professional development and compliance
Maintain knowledge of safety precautions and procedures for all facility operations and maintenance activities
Ensure all maintenance work meets safety standards and regulatory requirements consistently
Emergency Response and On-Call Support: Periodically act as on-call engineer for portfolio of buildings while providing emergency response support
Actively participate in emergency response procedures with focus on rapid problem resolution and client service
Respond to emergencies and changing priorities with flexibility and professional competence
Support multiple Northern Illinois client sites during emergency situations and coverage requirements
Maintain availability for long hours occasionally and some weekends as operational needs require
Documentation and Reporting: Track and report time worked in accordance with account policies and procedures for accurate billing and documentation
Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities and equipment performance for facility management
Document all service requests, maintenance activities, and system performance for continuous improvement
Communicate effectively with supervisor, operations team, and clients regarding facility status and needs
Support special projects and other functions as required by manager or client with professional execution
Required Qualifications:Education and Certifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required
Relevant technical certifications or licenses in mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems
Valid driver's license with good driving record required for multi-site support
Experience and Technical Skills: Prior experience in operating and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment
Strong understanding of building systems and equipment for comprehensive facility operations
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex mechanical and electrical issues
Knowledge of installation, repair, and maintenance procedures for facility equipment and systems
Professional Competencies: Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective client and team interaction
Ability to work independently and as part of team while managing multiple priorities effectively
Flexible and able to respond to emergencies or changing priorities with professional competence
Understanding of preventative maintenance principles and best practices for facility management
Safety and Compliance Knowledge: Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures for all facility operations and maintenance work
Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards for mechanical and electrical systems
Commitment to maintaining safe work environment and following established safety protocols
Ability to identify and report safety issues while implementing corrective measures
Physical and Availability Requirements: Ability to work long hours occasionally and some weekends as operational needs require
Physical capability to perform maintenance tasks including lifting, climbing, and working in various conditions
Flexibility to provide on-call support and emergency response across Northern Illinois client sites
Willingness to travel between multiple client locations for coverage and emergency support
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced certifications in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing systems
Experience with building automation systems and controls
Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices
Previous experience in commercial facility maintenance or corporate environments

Estimated compensation for this position:50,000.00 - 90,000.00 USD per year
This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
