Schedule: Monday – Friday | 30 Hours/Week

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Actuarial Analyst to support the development and implementation of pricing strategies for Encova's expansion into the Virginia Personal Lines insurance market.

This consultant will play a key role in building the initial pricing framework for Personal Auto, Homeowners, Dwelling Property, and Umbrella products by developing rate indications, designing rating plans, supporting regulatory filings, and partnering closely with Product Management to successfully launch new business in Virginia.

This is an ideal opportunity for a pricing actuary who has experience building products in new markets and enjoys highly analytical, project-based work with significant business impact.


Responsibilities

  • Develop actuarial rate indications for new Personal Lines products.
  • Analyze profitability, trends, and competitive positioning to support pricing recommendations.
  • Design and evaluate rating plans and rating factors.
  • Prepare actuarial support for state insurance filings.
  • Partner with Product Management to execute Virginia market entry strategy.
  • Assist with selection of:
    • Territorial structures
    • Class plans
    • Discounts
    • Initial rate levels
  • Analyze ISO loss costs and pricing methodologies.
  • Evaluate competitor pricing and market positioning.
  • Present pricing analyses and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Work independently while managing multiple pricing initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of Property & Casualty pricing experience.
  • Strong experience pricing Personal Auto and/or Homeowners insurance products.
  • Experience developing:
    • Rate indications
    • Pricing recommendations
    • Rating plans
    • Rating factors
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more CAS exams completed.
  • Experience launching Personal Lines insurance products in a new state.
  • Virginia Personal Lines pricing experience.
  • ISO product and loss cost experience.
  • Personal Lines regulatory filing experience.
  • Experience building pricing models with limited historical company data.
  • Strong understanding of competitor pricing strategies and market positioning.

Ideal Background

We're looking for an actuarial pricing professional who has successfully built or supported Personal Lines pricing programs from the ground up. The ideal candidate understands both the technical actuarial work and the business considerations behind entering a new insurance market, including regulatory filings, competitive positioning, and pricing strategy.

Experience with Virginia Personal Auto and Homeowners filings is highly desirable.
