Job Description
We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Java 17+, Spring Boot, REST API design, AWS, Terraform, and containerized microservices and a proven ability to design domain-driven architectures, deliver high-quality services and data streams, and lead best practices within agile teams.
Responsibilities:
- Engage in proactive problem solving to drive innovative solutions and refine project objectives.
- Apply critical thinking to analyze complex requirements and contribute to design and architecture.
- Collaborate on task definition and milestone planning to advance projects.
- Participate in agile ceremonies and provide constructive feedback to the team.
- Model software development best practices and mentor peers through communities of practice.
- Maintain risk and compliance awareness while supporting a positive customer experience.
General Functions:
- Design and implement technology and software solutions as part of an agile squad.
- Influence activities from architecture through delivery while participating in agile ceremonies.
- Lead and contribute to communities of practice to document standards and best practices.
- Ensure responsible risk management and compliance with policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Define and implement Domain-Driven Design patterns for the enterprise.
- Deliver RESTful APIs and real-time data streams for domain services.
- Develop code and infrastructure as code in AWS using Terraform.
- Build microservices with Java and Spring Boot.
- Design and implement features that improve product and application quality.
- Serve as a technical expert on an agile squad and drive solution architecture across services.
- Write software that meets code quality standards and metrics with strong unit testing.
- Mentor developers, enforce standards, and share knowledge through communities of practice.
- Pursue operational excellence with automation and maintainable, testable code.
- Partner with operations and engineering teams to improve services.
- Stay current on relevant IT trends and assist with end-user problem resolution.
- Create and update operational procedures and ensure audit compliance.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Expertise in Java 17+ and Spring Boot for microservices.
- REST API design and development experience.
- Familiarity with containers and container orchestration concepts.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, and 8+ years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of software development best practices and methodologies.
- Proficiency with Git and GitHub workflows.
- Understanding of security best practices in software development.
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills with clear communication.
- Experience developing on macOS (OSX).
- Unit testing proficiency with JUnit.
Preferred Skills:
- 12-factor application design experience.
- Microservices development with Node.js and Express.js.
- Amazon ECS knowledge and container deployment experience.
- Greenfield application development background.
- Hands-on Terraform for AWS infrastructure.
- Configuration and tuning of embedded Tomcat.
- HashiCorp Vault familiarity for secrets management.
- Jenkins CI/CD pipeline experience.
