Summary

JOB SUMMARY

This role is responsible for designing, improving, and maintaining manufacturing processes with a specific focus on CNC machining and make-part optimization. The position combines traditional Manufacturing Engineering responsibilities with hands-on CNC programming to improve machining efficiency, reduce costs, and increase internal manufacturing capability.

The Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programming role plays a key part in driving continuous improvement initiatives, supporting insourcing strategies, and optimizing CNC programs to reduce cycle time, scrap, and external spend while maintaining quality and safety standards.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes with emphasis on CNC machining efficiency, cycle time reduction, and cost optimization.
  • Create, modify, and maintain CNC programs for new and existing parts, including ECN-related program updates.
  • Develop tooling strategies, fixtures, setup sheets, and tool sheets to support efficient and repeatable machining operations.
  • Identify and execute make-part optimization opportunities, including insourcing initiatives and machining process improvements.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions related to machining issues, non-conformances, scrap, and rework.
  • Collaborate with machine operators, manufacturing engineers, tool designers, and management to implement robust and standardized machining processes.
  • Participate in capital equipment justification and evaluation related to CNC machining and manufacturing capability.
  • Apply lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies to reduce waste and improve workflow and equipment utilization.
  • Establishes and maintains machining standards and best practices, including standardized programming approaches, tooling libraries, and process documentation, to improve repeatability, knowledge transfer, and long-term manufacturing capability.
  • Leads technical trials and process validations for new materials, tooling technologies, or machining methods to support continuous improvement and future manufacturing capability.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Strong background in CNC machining and programming within a production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining strategies to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Experience developing and improving manufacturing processes using lean and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Familiarity with CAM software and CNC controls; experience with stainless steel machining preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software such as Inventor or similar platforms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of manufacturing engineering and/or CNC programming experience in a machining environment.
  • Background in metal machining and finishing processes with hands-on CNC programming experience.

Working conditions are normal for an office and/or client site workshop or warehousing facility. The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet, however local and client sites can be unpredictable and associated safety equipment should be worn accordingly.
