Job Details
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair transport refrigeration systems installed on commercial trucks and semi-trailers.
Service Thermo King and Carrier refrigeration units according to manufacturer specifications.
Diagnose refrigeration-system issues involving compressors, condensers, evaporators, refrigerant circuits, controls, and related components.
Perform truck HVAC diagnosis, maintenance, and repair.
Troubleshoot and repair auxiliary power units, including APU electrical, HVAC, diesel-engine, and charging-system components.
Diagnose electrical and electronic problems using meters, diagnostic software, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer service information.
Inspect and repair diesel engines, fuel systems, belts, hoses, batteries, starters, alternators, and related components.
Recover, evacuate, recharge, and properly handle refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations.
Complete preventive maintenance inspections and identify potential failures before they result in equipment downtime.
Conduct operational testing after repairs to verify temperature performance and system reliability.
Document inspections, diagnostic findings, repairs, parts used, and completed labor accurately.
Communicate repair recommendations and equipment conditions clearly to service management and customers.
Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, service vehicles, and work areas in safe operating condition.
Follow applicable environmental, workplace-safety, and refrigerant-handling requirements.
Provide road service or mobile repairs when assigned.
Participate in scheduled or emergency service coverage when required.
Maintain a professional standard of service while working independently at customer and roadside locations.
Qualifications Needed:
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Current EPA Section 608 and Section 609 certifications required.
Minimum three years of professional transport refrigeration repair experience.
Direct experience servicing Thermo King or Carrier refrigeration units required.
Experience diagnosing refrigeration, electrical, electronic, and mechanical failures.
Working knowledge of truck HVAC systems and auxiliary power units.
Ability to read wiring diagrams, technical manuals, fault codes, and manufacturer service information.
Proficiency using electrical meters, refrigerant-service equipment, gauges, vacuum pumps, and standard mechanical tools.
Ability to perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, leak testing, and system charging safely.
Valid driver's license and safe driving record required.
Ability to meet the company's pre-employment screening requirements.
Ability to perform physically demanding repair work in shop, outdoor, and mobile-service conditions.
Availability for the applicable location's work schedule and any required after-hours service rotation.
Preferred:
Thermo King factory training or certification.
Carrier Transicold service experience.
Experience repairing TriPac or comparable APU systems.
Diesel engine and generator repair experience.
Mobile or roadside service experience.
Experience supporting commercial fleets in a high-volume service environment.
