Job Title: Senior Cloud Database Engineer (PostgreSQL & AWS Migration Specialist)

Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned, highly technical Senior Cloud Database Engineer to lead the migration, administration, and optimization of mission-critical database environments across on-premises data centers and AWS cloud platforms. In this role, you will act as the principal subject matter expert for PostgreSQL administration, ensuring that our systems deliver maximum performance, high availability, robust security, and seamless scalability.

This is a high-impact engineering role for a database professional who thrives at the intersection of cloud architecture, automation, and complex data migration. You will partner closely with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and cloud architects to design fault-tolerant architectures, implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and spearhead enterprise database modernization initiatives. Key Responsibilities
PostgreSQL Administration & Performance Optimization
Database Lifecycle: Oversee the installation, configuration, upgrading, patching, and ongoing maintenance of enterprise PostgreSQL databases across production, staging, and disaster recovery environments.
Performance Tuning: Monitor system health, storage utilization, and query performance; execute advanced query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
High Availability & DR: Design, implement, and support robust High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) architectures (utilizing replication, clustering, and failover frameworks); ensure strict compliance with RTO/RPO standards.
Backup & Recovery: Implement comprehensive backup strategies utilizing WAL archiving, Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), and routine restoration testing.

AWS Cloud Modernization & Migration
Cloud Infrastructure: Administer Amazon RDS PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, and EC2-hosted database instances; ensure adherence to security controls, IAM policies, and KMS encryption standards.
Cross-Platform Migrations: Lead complex database migration initiatives, including migrating on-premises PostgreSQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases to AWS cloud environments using tools such as AWS DMS, SCT, and native utilities.
Assessment & Conversion: Execute pre-migration assessments, schema conversions, compatibility analyses, and post-migration validation with minimal downtime.

Infrastructure Automation & Monitoring
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Automate routine DBA tasks, operational workflows, and cloud infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and AWS-native services.
Proactive Monitoring: Build and maintain automated health checks, custom alerting solutions, and operational dashboards utilizing Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Lambda, and SNS.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with application and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration, robust CI/CD pipelines, and secure containerized database deployments (e.g., Kubernetes).

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience Baseline:
oMinimum of 12+ years of overall Database Administration experience.
oMinimum of 8+ years specializing in PostgreSQL database administration.
oMinimum of 5+ years of AWS cloud database administration experience.
Technical Mastery:
oProven experience managing mission-critical, large-scale production databases in regulated environments (financial, utility, or enterprise).
oDeep expertise in PostgreSQL upgrades, cross-platform migrations, replication technologies, and advanced performance tuning.
oHands-on proficiency with infrastructure automation tools (Terraform) and scripting/CLI automation.
Certifications (Preferred / Highly Desired):
oAWS Certified Database - Specialty.
oAWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional).
oProfessional PostgreSQL Certification.
Core Competencies: Exceptional troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills; outstanding verbal and written communication abilities; ability to work independently and guide technical teams through complex modernization projects.

Preferred Attributes
Experience with enterprise connection poolers and HA tools (e.g., pgBouncer, Pgpool-II, Patroni).
Knowledge of containerized database environments and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes/Docker).
Familiarity with DevOps workflows, CI/CD toolchains, and enterprise monitoring suites.
