**Work Schedule: Mon-Friday hybrid (Primarily on site) schedule at Annapolis Office; 4 days onsite and 1 remote. Schedule varies by week due to coverage.
Title: Senior Linux System Administrator (Hybrid)
Job Description:
Collins Aerospace Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) Networks and Messaging Services support over 1,500 aviation customers, transmitting over 75 million messages per day across the Aviation community. We are currently seeking a senior-level Linux Administrator to join the Messaging Application Engineering team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and a team player with an ambitious and diverse technical background. In addition, this person must be an articulate problem solver who is passionate about standardization, a champion for systematic design, and comfortable working in a highly collaborative/fast-paced environment.
Employees working in Hybrid roles will regularly work >50% onsite and <50% offsite. The ratio of time working on-site will be determined in partnership with your leader.
Primary Responsibilities
- The Linux Administrator is responsible for the sustainment and maintenance of our core servers Linux within a Bare Metal infrastructure to appropriate standards
- and best practices in a fast-paced work environment
- Their responsibilities will include administering system-level procedures; patch management; service layer application; deployment creation; redundancy
- management, and certificate management
- Work with developers to build containerization that promotes automated, continuous integration and accelerates delivery of new products and services
- Install upgrades, configure, test, and support system software
- Some on-site duties include racking devices, cabling, and deploying new systems in multiple data centers. Able to lift 40lbs.
- Perform configurations and adjustments to enhance system performance.
- Perform automated and manual backup and restorative processes
- Ensure the necessary security procedures are implemented and enforced across their work
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 3 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and 2 years relevant experience or in absence of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with the Linux CLI, debugging tools, and network stack
- Working knowledge of core networking, subnetting, firewalls, and routing
- Proficient in configuration, troubleshooting, installation, operation, maintenance, and system administration of Multiple Linux distros such as RHEL and Ubuntu
- Ability to create shell programs and utility scripts
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve system hardware, software, and connectivity issues
- Ability to work independently in an international, cross-functional team environment, including occasional off-hours tasks and meetings
- Ability to multi-task, prioritizes workload, and successfully handle competing deadlines
- Ability to support hybrid (Primarily on site) schedule at Annapolis Office
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience with IBM MQ
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Containerization
- Experience with storage appliances (TrueNAS, FreeNas) with a focus on NAS and ISCSI protocols
- Ability to support a 24x7 rotating on-call schedule will be required in this position
- Occasional travel, as needed, less than 20 days a year.
- Experience working with Configuration Management Systems (git in particular)
- Experience Solaris and ZFS
